You aren’t your mistakes.

As females we ruminate over the negative things. As athletes we tend to confuse what we do with who we are.

Stop giving your mistakes so much power.

GIVE YOUR RESPONSE TO THE MISTAKE POWER INSTEAD.

Mistakes are just small reminders that we are trying and growing. Let them go so you can grow.

“Cross the line if the car ride home is an issue for you.”

Literally, EVERY PLAYER crosses every time we do this activity, no matter the age or the team.

We have more power to positively impact their mentality than we think. So let’s start helping, not hurting.

Perspective.

This past year we all found ourselves in uncharted territory having to navigate discomfort. From all angles. Players, parents and coaches.

It led to languishing. We got stuck in the negativity of discomfort.

But what if the way out was simply to find the positive that comes from discomfort? Just simply trying to enjoy the frustration. Why? Because growth comes from discomfort. Changes come from discomfort.

What if we had control this whole time because it simply was all about our perspective?

On this #mentalheathawarenessmonth and #mentalheathactionday our best advice is to try to look at the discomfort and find the positive that has come from it. It’s the first step in changing your perspective and can lead to positive actions for your mental health.

“Female athletes drop out of sport two times the rate of boys, between the ages of 9-12.” - Womens Sports Foundation.

Working with girls in this age group on mental skills training is key to not only keeping them in the game but also providing positive experiences that can empower them beyond the game.

Thanks to @santaclarasportingclub 2010 girls! It was awesome to work with you on reset rituals, moving past mistakes and team building yesterday!

When it comes to most mental skills, we can’t think our way into to bettering ourselves. It takes action to decide to improve first. And then you must take the action of implementing consistent habits.

Once these actions are in place and consistently practiced, you’ll notice a shift in your thoughts and feelings. That shift is you becoming more mentally strong.
