Let me change your mind about pre-calls really quick…. I got into too many shops that are putting their worst sales person on the phone. Right now, if you’re thinking pre-calls are a task for the person who is the most available, the lowest closing ratio, or just simply doesn’t know what to do when you come in - its time to change this immediately. Phones are a sales role. Point blank, period. Phones are on the front line of your brides experiences. Your best person needs to be doing your pre-calls. This is your person who is best at sales, best with people. (Hint hint: the owner should be doing this role until you have someone trained and excellent enough to pass this off to). Phones are one of the first, and a constant, point of communication between your brand and your brides. Believe it or not, Oprah comes to mind when I think of who I want in this role. As a girl growing up in Chicago with a fascination for communication, Oprah was a hero for me. One of the things I love most about her is her admit curiosity about other people. She is constantly asking good questions, learning more, and hungry to see through the eyes of another. THIS is what your pre-call should be about. We aren’t rambling off a script to our bride leaving them no room to speak, express themselves, etc. These pre-calls should be highly inquisitive. I’ve heard “retail is dying” and I’m just not buying it….. I’m in my store every week, and what I’m watching with our Gen-Z brides at @somethingnewboutique tells me something different. Gorgeous gowns are now the starting point every serious shop offers, so the real decision she’s making is whether your store feels like the kind of woman SHE wants to be. The owners I coach who are pulling ahead have committed to telling ONE consistent (authentic to them) story across their social media, website, emails, team, and events, so a bride already feels like she belongs before she walks in. If you’re feeling this shift in your own business, you’re not crazy! The times are changing and so are our brides. It’s time to change with them.
