YOUR BELIEFS MATTER

They matter in how we act (if I believe "I can't," I'm not going to push myself in workouts).

They matter how our bodies respond to input like food (The Milkshake Study) and stress (@kellymariemcgonigal).

Beliefs can either be your greatest advantage or your biggest obstacle.

#tbt Can you spot what lane I’m in? 😂🤣 I was asked what sport did I participate in growing up. I always told people that I was a swimmer all through high school and into college. Most people would just stare at me awkwardly and I would dead eye them back then show them a photo on my phone.
It gave me great pride knowing that I was an advocate for other minorities to branch out into swimming.
I loved every second of breaking stereotypes as much as breaking records. It never bothered me that I was the “only chip in the cookie” at 90% swim meets nor was I ever treated any differently than any other athlete. I had awesome teammates for all different backgrounds and we were like one huge dysfunctional but loving family.

I had an awesome panel of coaches who set high expectations for me. The two things that was always preached; be a good person with strong work ethic and get your hand on the wall first.

So this morning I went on a morning run like a normally do, listening to my favorite collection of podcasts. During one of the podcasts the host was jokingly saying that in his experience; training and recovery start to become increasingly difficult after age 28.
I remember just laughing because not too long ago (I’m 28 now) I could pretty much “cold turkey” anything without getting injured or quickly recover from strenuous exercise in a matter of hours not days. Nowadays Im pretty meticulous with my warmups and make sure everything is “ready to go” before doing anything.
In the midst of my laughter I heard a loud audible pop coming from my right quadricep. I dropped mid-run and immediately grabbed my leg. I knew I had just pulled my quad, I shook my head and laughed. This was karma biting me straight in my ass or this case my quad.

Long story, short. Take care of your body because it’s the only place you get to live. Warmup properly before exercise, stay hydrated, eat “real” foods, get proper rest and always try to learn.

That moment when athletes really surprise themselves with what they can actually achieve. Dave has been out of training for a good few months after surgery & treatment for a medical conditions. He is just starting to gain body weight again, managed to pull a 100kg Deadlift for 2 reps last week & yesterday showered his ninja skills on the rope climb. The strength is coming back and I am very proud. Anna has never been able to climb a rope, but we bagged her first set of Strict Pull Ups a few weeks ago & yesterday was the turn of the rope climb: - outstanding! Support of your community, great coaching and programming and a positive mindset and the opportunities are endless. All you need to do is step in the door.
