MINT THEATER COMPANY
Where lost and forgotten plays come to life.
PHYL✨Now through Nov 7th!

POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

The 1913 debut of Cicely Hamilton's play "Phyl" was cancelled for its audacious portrayal of an independent woman. Hamilton, a campaigner for women's rights, had her downtrodden heroine escape her troubles by defiantly becoming the paramour of a wealthy suitor. Mint Theater Company's worthy revival reveals a play ahead of its time, presaging the kind of convention-flouting characters Katharine Hepburn would often play decades later. (As Phyl, Lily Ganser displays a Hepburn-esque combination of no-nonsense smarts and vulnerability.) But the play also seems too pat; in its privileged world, the main characters' overwhelming decency assures only honorable outcomes. 3.5 out of 5 stars. At Theatre Row, through Nov. 7; minttheater.org. Review by Adam Z. Horvath. #phyl #minttheater #cicelyhamilton #lilyganser #theatrerow #offbroadway #the100wordreview @minttheaterco @lilyganser @theatrerow

I still can’t believe I’m making my Off-Broadway debut as Olive Ponsonby in @minttheaterco PHYL! 🫒

I’ve loved bringing Olive to life and learning so much from this incredible cast and our amazing director, @brittberke . She’s the kind of director every actor deserves 🫒

One of my favorite lines is, “I admire your pluck…I rather admire it myself.” I think every young girl deserves to feel those words 🫒

PHYL really is an anthem for girls growing up today, a reminder to be brave, find your voice, and believe in yourself 🫒

Thank you to my ahhhmazinggggg agent, @michcavall, @take3talent for believing in me! 🫒

Here’s to Olive, telling stories that matter, and every young girl learning to admire her own pluck! 🫒
