this piece, much like myself, found a second life under the summer sun, in the hands of some of my dearest friends and their incredible artistry. thank you to my interpreters, the staff and volunteers at Summerworks and the staff at Evergreen Brickworks and Dance Arts for your artistic, production, and venue support which made this bill possible. here’s to a v3 in the future 🧡

After a great trip to Scotland, I was stiff from much walking and the cramped plane ride back. So I was happy to get back to dance class tonight with @minuetcharron at #dancelifex where it was all floor work!!

No matter what, coming back to movement & living in the joy that it brings always centres me in a way nothing else ever could. Whether it be pushing hard weight training, or having beautiful moments like this of just feeling music flowing through me. The body is amazing and life is not life without this precious vessel!
LOVE your body everyone, thank it for how miraculous it is, and don’t forget to ENJOY every second!

Today, we celebrate “soft, open hand v2,” choreographed by Joel Lawrence and performed by Jules Vance, Liz South & Minuet Charron. 🌿🌼🧡

Reflecting on the experience, Joel says, “The opportunity to develop “soft, open hand” into its new version - with a new cast, site, audience, and context as a part of a festival lineup - allowed me to explore ways of approaching a pre-existing work through a lens of rediscovery of its themes.
I felt so supported by both Dance Arts and Summerworks staff in the development and production stages, and am so grateful to have had the chance to work with such incredible professionals.”

As we close out our look back at “The Upheld Present,” we’re feeling so grateful for the artists, collaborators and communities who made this experience so special. 💖

For now, we hope you enjoy the long weekend before the new school year kicks off on Tuesday. We’re soaking up these last days of summer and getting so excited for all that’s to come! ✨

This one felt so good! Dance will always have my heart 💕
When I dance like this… when I walk, when I train at the gym, I am ever amazed by how the body works and moves and so thankful for what it can do!
Here’s to loving our bodies and empowering them with proper care so that we can move freely just like this!

Thank you as always to the lovely @minuetcharron for classes and this perfect choreo! 🙏
