How we approach someone can be the difference between making them feel seen and loved VS called out or cornered. @miranda.freedman reminds us that approaching someone gently is an important component of creating inclusive spaces! #allyship #relationships

En Garde.

Miranda Wynne Freedman has spent her entire collegiate career in a fighting stance — not against opponents, but against every system that told athletes they had to leave part of themselves at the door to compete.

Tonight, she puts the guard down.

A medically retired Division I fencer, Team Captain, founder of EmpowHER, President of @buckeyespectrum, Athlete Ally 2025 Chapter of the Year recipient, Big Ten LGBTQ+ Equality Symposium presenter, U.S. Surgeon General mental health meeting participant, incoming Clinical Psychology doctoral student, and one of the most quietly powerful advocates in collegiate athletics today — Miranda joins us at Play for Joy to speak to what it means to be both things at once. The athlete and the human. The competitor and the whole person. En garde and finally, fully, at rest.

This is for every student-athlete who has ever been asked to choose.

Tonight, we choose everything. Play for Joy — A community-centered space at the intersections of sport, identity, and creativity.

Liberation. Healing. Belonging.🖤

Tonight. Doors open. Come as you are.

Sport has never been just a game.

It has been survival. Resistance. Healing. Community. Identity. Joy.

The Scatter Joy Project & Good Trouble Collective are coming together to honor that truth — and to build something new from it.

We’re creating an intentional, community-centered space at the intersections of sport, identity, and creativity. Conceptualized for athletes, students, coaches, creatives, and anyone ready to reimagine what sport can be outside of systems rooted solely in performance and productivity.

For those who have ever felt like they had to shrink to compete.

For those who found themselves — or lost themselves — through sport.

For those who know that joy is not separate from justice — it’s essential to it.

Access to and through sport. Radical self-love. Collective care.

We can’t wait to get in good trouble, necessary trouble, with you 🖤

@athleteally ACTIVISM SUMMIT ‘26, POCONOS 🌲💙
1st Summit as a full time member of the team and WOW it was a busy busy 4 days in the Poconos, but WORTH EVERY SECOND.

I love seeing athletes and admin come together, to build community and learn tools to use towards making their campus’s inclusive, activism stronger, and love for all deeper.

Yapping on panels about the current state of masculinity in sports and how bisexuality (walk with me here) in the male community is the key to progressing our movement is also fun.

Shout out comms team. Shout out staff & volunteers, love yall and love what we do! #AthleteActivismSummit #AthleteAlly

A little look at yesterday’s activities during our annual #AthleteActivismSummit. We played, we connected, we learned, we talked about what comes next in our work to make sport inclusive. We’re so inspired by those who have joined us! #joy #allyship
