Feeling deep gratitude for the ancestors of the land, and for the lineages that walked beside us on our Womb Awakening Facilitator Retreat.

There was such deep holding over these seven days. Powerful medicine revealed itself, and I know its gifts will continue to ripple through our lives. Our Temple was filled with love, sisterhood, laughter, tears, and profound moments that words can never quite capture.

A big thank you to @joannabarneswomb and @wright_approach_wellness for all your loving support and all that you brought to our temple.

My heart is full as I celebrate each woman who said yes to this journey. Thank you for your presence, devotion, and willingness to descend into the depths with so much courage and trust, meeting yourselves, one another, and the mysteries within.

May the medicine continue to unfold through your lives, into your sacred vocation, and into the hearts and wombs of the women you serve ❣️

In just a month’s time, (what we sense will become) our signature day retreat, Becoming & Belonging, will be earthside. Meet our Becoming & Belonging Special Guest, Miriam Bouvé (@miriambouve). Y’all, Miriam is one of a kind, and I am so grateful she is here in Kalamazoo with in-person offerings. Her clinical background quietly grounds the magic she weaves in her sessions, and I’ve been proud to send many a friend and client her way. She offers incredible, specialized insight and skill to our community, and I can’t wait to see the ripple effect of what she will guide us in conjuring at Becoming & Belonging. Here she is:

I’m Miriam Bouvé, and I guide women in finding healing around painful experiences and symptoms held within the pelvic and womb space. I bring years of experience supporting women through both physical and emotional pain into the individual sessions, Womb Hara Massage, and ceremonies I offer. As a former pelvic physical therapist, I have a deep respect for the physical, emotional, and spiritual challenges that shape us and hold the potential to transform us. Through Womb Hara Massage, womb-centered healing journeys and ceremony, I support women navigating fertility journeys, birth experiences, pelvic and sexual pain, feminine trauma, postpartum transitions, menopause, and other sacred passages of womanhood. My work helps women shift consciousness from the mind into the body, reconnecting what has been lost, forgotten, or is waiting to be remembered.

At Becoming & Belonging, I will offer a workshop called The Gates of Motherhood. I will hold a space for us all to move from the mind and into the body and womb space in order to gently process aspects of our motherhood journeys affecting everyday life — consciously or not. This may relate to fertility, birth, marriage and intimacy, grief, connection to your child, your relationship with your mother or lineage, your body, or other significant life experiences. Here, what has been carried internally can be seen and witnessed, both within ourselves and in the presence of others, creating space for greater peace and clarity in relation to what has been moved through in our motherhood journeys. Becoming & Belonging, a day retreat hosted by Mindful Matrescence, is created for folks who are pregnant, newly postpartum, or moving through the early years of motherhood.

“Becoming” because that’s exactly what you’re doing. No matter where you find yourself along the matrescence continuum, you are transforming.

You are alchemizing.

You are embodying what it means to expand, release, create, and integrate.

“Belonging” because maybe that’s what you’re craving. We’re always asking ourselves, “where is the village?”

Consider that for our generation the village must be built, not found.

And maybe we don’t have to start from square one. Maybe all we need is an opportunity to gather and see what already exists between us.

Each of us will arrive carrying something different — questions, tenderness, exhaustion, joy, grief, rage, experience, hope — and together we will cultivate a space where we can slow down, tune in, and honor the shared experience of matrescence.

Throughout our day you will be invited into:

🌀gentle movement, breathwork, and meditation
🌀guided and open time in nature
🌀ritual, reflection, and integration practices
🌀connection with local reproductive health practitioners
🌀nourishing food, warm beverages, and spacious conversation

What a blessing it’s been to gather in California and share the sacred medicine of Womb Hara Massage 💗

Each sister embodied this practice with such reverence, devotion, love, and power. My heart is full in knowing you’re now carrying this work forward, weaving it across Oregon, Humboldt, LA, San Diego, Idaho, Virginia, Asheville, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, Miami, Florida, Michigan, and Ohio. The web of healing expands, and the ripples flow far and wide.

Our time together was filled with so much love, vulnerability, and the deepest sisterhood. The beauty of coming together as mothers was a true gift, and our womb nest we created held us in nourishment and tenderness, a true sanctuary of the feminine.

Thank you @joannabarneswildwoman for your loving support and for bringing this medicine to the UK and Europe, and to each sister, thank you for trusting the journey, for stepping into the sacred depths of this practice, and tending to the inner rivers of the body.

Woman makes plans and, God laughs! -Yiddish proverb

On a deeply personal note, Dave and I are preparing to welcome a new baby this fall, and I’ll be stepping away from the clinic for a period of time to fully embrace this next chapter.

As you may know, I started this practice because of my own fertility journey 7 years ago. Did I have any idea I’d be here now… a business owner who showed herself she can do it and ready to welcome a new life to the world?

Nope!
Yah, maybe.
Nah!
Of course.
Absolutely not.

And yet—here we are.

Over the years, I’ve leaned into the unknown: opening a business, building an incredible team, and trusting in the vision that Breathe Life could be a place for all women—those navigating grief, overwhelm, hope, and joy alike.

Even as I supported others, I was wrestling with my own identity as a woman, wondering if I could trust the next chapter no matter what it brought.

Through the storms and the times that it looked like light was never going to come over the horizon, I showed myself something great. I could be a business owner, a leader, and and use my creativity beyond what I could imagine. If I'm honest, I always wanted to show myself what I could achieve before growing our family. Funny how life's timing works! 🥰

From being told “there’s nothing wrong with you”, “just keep trying”, “you’ll never build a business while you’re going through fertility treatments”, “people don’t care about breathing and the pelvic floor”…I sure as heck would do it all over again to show myself that anything is possible and to walk a path outside of the box!

Through this journey (personal and professional), I had to surrender to God’s timing, accept the support of others, and fiercely advocate for what we needed to build our family.

We were able to grow our family, in the way that was best for us, because of the support of these amazing women:

I haven’t figured out how to be in a bad mood after playing with plants and flowers. I think the smiles on these faces echo the same story.

🎃 Pelvic health isn’t scary!

But what is scary is when:

The OB/GYNs do not refer you to pelvic therapy for pain with sex and say have a glass of wine instead!

When you decide your pelvic pressure is "ok to live with bc your mom has it too"

When postpartum women are told they need surgery for prolapse without considering a pessary for support and PP therapy for strategies

When leakage at the gym is giggled at instead of managed with appropriate exercises and breathe techniques for your pelvic floor

When women with painful periods are told pain meds are the only way, but have never been told how magnesium and vitamin D deficiency can be a cause of period cramps

When you see a pelvic therapist and they do not even look OR touch your pelvic muscles or pelvic bowl

When we assume chronic pelvic pain is "all in your head" and limit ourselves with the belief someone will not heal in 6 weeks as written on a prescription

When struggling with infertility and you are told to "keep trying and to stand on your head". Oh and your miscarriages, history of PCOS and overexercising are "nothing too worry about"

Let's be brave and know pelvic health therapists are not scary! The #healthcaresystem can be scary.
