Our dear sweet Misaki has some very exciting news: She’s about to start her PhD in Music Education/Orchestral Conducting at Florida State University in Tallahassee, Florida!

Although this will make it tricky for Misaki to be a part of the touring DOOM GONG crew (for now), she’ll still make occasional show appearances and contribute to recordings/help out with a lot of the behind-the-scenes DOOM GONG stuff.

She’ll still be a big part of what we do, even if we’re not sharing the exact same stage (for now). We love Misaki so much and are very proud of her! ❤️

DOOM GONG on film! These guys are a ton of fun live, so energetic! Excited for the next one! THE GONG RINGS ON!

Also a shoutout to Animal Instincts, who were easily one of the best opening bands I’ve ever seen!

The blur on the photos was 100% intentional and definitely not the result of just using a point-and-shoot camera at a concert (I’ll bring my SLR next time, I swear)

We had the absolute best time playing a ceremony and cocktail hour for the sweetest couple, both saying “I do” for the first time in their 50s, at the STUNNING West Baden Springs Hotel. They even saved us dinner (the cherry on top 🥹). Such a beautifully coordinated evening with truly immaculate vibes. I can’t wait to be back! 🥰🎻💍

Alumna Misaki Hall ’22-’25 joins Louisville Youth Orchestra as Assistant Conductor!

The Monteux School & Music Festival is proud to share that alumna Misaki Hall has been appointed Staff Assistant Conductor of the Louisville Youth Orchestra (LYO). In this new role, Misaki will assist with all LYO ensembles, lead sectionals, and provide instructional coaching to young musicians across the region.

“I’m thrilled to support the mission of the Louisville Youth Orchestra and support Maestro Lefkowitz’s artistic vision for LYO,” said Misaki.

A conductor and violinist based in Louisville, Kentucky, Misaki brings a wealth of experience and artistry to the position. She currently serves as rehearsal assistant for the Louisville Orchestra and conductor of the Kling Chamber Orchestra. Her guest conducting engagements include the Louisville Civic Orchestra, Dayton Philharmonic Youth Orchestra, and Orchestra Northern Arizona. In January 2025, she won first prize at the International Conductors Workshop and Competition in Atlanta, earning a guest conducting appearance with the Gwinnett Symphony later this year.

Misaki attended the Pierre Monteux School and Music Festival from 2022 to 2025 as a conductor, violinist, and orchestra assistant, embodying the spirit of versatility and dedication that defines our community.

Beyond classical music, Misaki is a passionate performer across genres. She has appeared as a solo jazz violinist with the Count Basie Orchestra and the Chicago Jazz Philharmonic, and she plays synthesizer in her psychedelic-rock band, DOOM GONG.

A proud Kentucky native, Misaki holds degrees in violin performance and conducting from the University of Louisville. Her journey with the Louisville Youth Orchestra began as a young student commuting from Radcliff—and now comes full circle as she steps into a leadership role.

Congratulations, Misaki!
