Be the first to see a new documentary film about San Bruno Mountain!

The film is titled Wild Presence and is by Elena Fava Emerson.

Elena is a photojournalist and filmmaker.

The film duration is about 1 hour and 15 minutes.

A Q&A session will follow with Elena and members of the San Bruno Mountain community. There will be other mountain exhibits and activities set up in the event space.

The venue, 99 Leland Avenue, is a community space generously hosted by the owners of Mission Blue Cafe, Kellie and Ken— @missionbluesf is up the street at 144 Leland. Leland Avenue is the heart of San Francisco’s Visitacion Valley neighborhood.

This will be a cozy premiere with room for 25 people, so please get your required ticket below as soon as possible! Tickets are free but donations are welcome.

Street parking on Leland Ave and parking in the surrounding neighborhood is available but can be challenging; please plan to arrive with enough time to find a parking spot or take public transportation.

The film features: Volunteers and students in action, the mountain’s ecology, histories of saving the mountain, and interviews with David Schooley (co-founder of San Bruno Mountain Watch), Candace Low (Biology professor at San Francisco State University), Mike Vasey (Emeritus professor at San Francisco State University and co-author of Field Guide to Manzanitas), Doug Allshouse (co-author of San Bruno Mountain: A Guide to the Flora and Fauna), David Schmidt (author of San Francisco Bay Area: An Environmental History), and Paul Bouscal (a hike leader and docent on San Bruno Mountain).

One of the most freeing things I’ve been learning is that I don’t have to be everything to everybody. 🤎

For so long, I struggled with people-pleasing. Caring about how I was perceived, wanting to be understood, and sometimes putting other people’s comfort and expectations before my own.

But over time, I’ve learned that there’s a difference between loving people and living for their approval.
I’m sharing this because I know I’m not the only one who’s struggled with this. And if you’re on a similar journey, I hope my experience encourages you to keep growing, even when it feels uncomfortable.

I’ll be sharing more about my personal journey out of people-pleasing in an upcoming YouTube video, including some of the things God has been teaching me along the way.

Have you ever struggled with people-pleasing? What’s something you’ve had to unlearn? 🤎

Some places serve coffee. Others make you feel like you’re family. 🥹☕️

Mission Blue Coffee SF is one of those places.

From the welcoming owner and genuine conversations to the unique finds and beautiful artwork created by members of the community, this place is something special.

It reminded me of what I love about San Francisco: the people, the creativity, and the sense of community.

And the prices? Surprisingly affordable for SF! 😂

If you’re ever in the area, stop by and tell them Damani sent you! ❤️

Hi! There are 200 people here now!! Not a lot a lot, but idk what I’m doing yet, and high key, that’s more than I expected so soon. It seems like most everyone is from around San Francisco, which is perfect because that’s where most of what I do happens and who I’ve been hoping to reach.

I’ve been working on increasing and improving urban green/open space and tree cover since college because I think everyone deserves an opportunity to connect with nature and receive the benefits of nature, no matter where they live.

I’m lucky to have made a career of this and that it allows me to be aware of and engaged in so many things. So, with this silly little IG, I hope to connect people to cool spaces and, if possible, drum up some support for them too. There’s a rich amount of natural resources around us, but there’s also a lot of work to be done to keep it that way! I don’t mean that in a negative way, but a hopeful one. Tending to nature isn’t the only way to push back on the world’s problems, but it is a good place to start.

Thanks for reading this if you did!

The bird is a Green Heron I digiscoped yesterday, I’m getting better at it, and the rest are other pics and videos I’ve taken since starting this account!

We had a great turn out and generally a fantastic group at our most recent volunteer day at the McLaren Native Plant garden!

This month we’ll be in the Vis Valley Green Way a few blocks away ☺️

Speaking of Vis Valley, I stopped by their very first night market! Love to see it. I recommend you go to the next one.

Fran and Jim got recognized by the Environment Commission for all the work they’ve done in their neighborhood 🙏🏽

Made this lil birb at the Snowy Plover welcome party!

Stumbled upon some cool staircases in my neighborhood walks! This one is between Athens and Avalon, there’s another along Peru!

Got the scoop on Star King Open Space, swung on the swing.

There was Pokémon craziness recently, and this isn’t real grass, but what I walked away with is just how much open space could be made by closing this road.

Took part in the biggest bioblitz I’ve ever seen! It was a blast, shoutouts to all the homies that made it possible. There is ap
