Sometimes, when you’re struggling, it can feel like you’re the only person in the world who feels this way. But you’re not. Sometimes all it takes is opening up about what you’re going through to realise just how many people are carrying similar feelings and experiences. You might be surprised by how many people understand what you’re going through, even those you least expect. This quote was shared with me by @misspatienta who wanted it posted in loving memory of her mum. Today would have been her anniversary ❤️ Thank you for allowing me to share it. I hope it reaches someone who needs to hear these words today. And that’s part of why i am building Afterglow. A place where you can talk openly about grief, connect with others who understand, and make sure the people we’ve lost are never forgotten. Join our grief community and light a star for someone you’ve lost. Share their story, celebrate their life, and give their memory a place to keep shining. Comment star to create one in their memory 💛 Link in bio.

I'd like to give a super warm welcome to our newest indie author, A Baker! 'Patient A' is a powerful memoir about late diagnosis ADHD and Autism. Sharing her experience of being misdiagnosed, the main purpose of putting this book together was to assure people in a similar situation that you're more than a label. A Baker is from Glasgow, and lives with her two chihuahuas, who are her world! This is her first ever book and edited by her wonderful editor Ian Skewis. She had been wanting to write a book for years but her ADHD never let her get round to it. Then lockdown hit and after decorating her house and trying gardening, she started to write her book about her journey of failures by the system and misdiagnosis. 'My book is my true experience of my years undiagnosed and loss of my very loved mother. I want to share my journey with others to offer hope and let you know you are never alone. You are not ‘too much’ you are enough!' Signed copies are now available on our website! #supportindieauthors #adhd #memoir #independentbookshop

Book Review Patient A Anonymous Author A Baker @starlapatienta (Instagram) Title: 'Patient A' https://amzn.eu/d/92QKA7u @misspatienta A big thank you to A Baker for sending me a copy of her book. Often we here it said that we should listen to autistic people and their lived experience, this book is proof of that and an example of authentic, often raw, honesty and resilience beyond belief. I was warned beforehand by the author that the storry could be very harrowing, and while I read it I felt like the author was there, that I was with them all the way. A Baker is a survivor and endured years of bullying and then being gaslighting by so many professionals along the way. She is originally diagnosed with anorexia, anaemia and dystonia and later in her 30's receives diagnosis of autism and then ADHD. I found myself in complete shock as I read this book, she is wrongly sectioned on many occasions and given treatment plans that are inhumane and barbaric. This feels like an escape story, but escaping professionals who are often arrogant and cruel in their quality of care. The book is proof that late diagnosis can save lives and provide much needed answers to questions. This is a compelling story of survival under the harshest of conditions and A Baker has my full admiration and respect. Just as it could not get any worse A Baker suffers the tragic loss of her mother in a car crash. The build up to this loss is shocking as her dear mother battles the broken mental health system only to be failed time and time again. There is also humour and refreshing honesty in the writing, lived experience delivered by someone who is clearly so kind and caring. I feel this book is a great resource for other neurodivergent people, parents and professionals who need to listen to our voices. Once again a book that could save lives, but be warned, it is raw and often frightening, shocking, and one is left feeling the unfairness that A Baker reletlessly fights all of the way. Thank you - Brian 💙🙏 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
