We are so excited to share gallery artist Robert Wilhite’s @bobwilhite four page spread in the recently published “Knife Fork Spoon: Modernist Cutlery. 1900-2025” by Dung Ngo @misterngo . The encyclopedic book of the author’s flatware collection is available for purchase @birdsbookstore 🍴

Robert Wilhite (b. 1946) is a Los Angeles-based artist and designer whose work explores geometric abstraction across sculpture, theater, and product design.
From 1990 to 2000 he was principal designer for Bissell & Wilhite, distributing flatware to museum stores across the United States and Europe. XUM applies the formal language of postmodernism and the Memphis movement to cutlery: handles with unorthodox finials, staggered fork tines, and a knife whose handle rotates ninety degrees from the blade.

What can a set of flatware reveal about the era in which it was made? On October 21, Wright presents 𝗞𝗻𝗶𝗳𝗲 𝗙𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝗦𝗽𝗼𝗼𝗻: 𝗠𝗼𝗱𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗶𝘀𝘁 𝗙𝗹𝗮𝘁𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗖𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝗗𝘂𝗻𝗴 𝗡𝗴𝗼, bringing together more than thirty cutlery sets that trace the evolution of modern design, from Neoclassicism and Bauhaus to Postmodernism.

In this video, designer and curator Dung Ngo explores why he considers these objects expressions of modernism, revealing how changing aesthetics and ideas about form and function found their way into everyday objects.

For the chicest stays, the most exclusive hideaways, and places worth travelling for — no one knows them better than Golden Voyage. ✨

Perched above Florence, Hotel Torre di Bellosguardo is exactly that kind of place: a centuries-old retreat where history, character and understated Italian elegance come together. A stay that feels less like a hotel, and more like discovering one of Florence’s best-kept secrets.

Mexican gallerists Mónica Manzutto and José Kuri have never been especially interested in doing things conventionally. Their first exhibition in Mexico City took place for a single day in a produce market, and when it came to making a home, they were drawn to an abandoned 19th century convent overtaken by an extraordinary garden. Working with architect Alberto Kalach (@kalach_tax), they approached La Platanera with the same openness that has shaped @kurimanzutto, allowing the history of the site to remain visible as the old structures were slowly brought back into use.

At the far end of the garden, Kalach’s library appears to float above the ground, reached through bamboo and stone steps, with a lightness that allows the surrounding vegetation to remain present. Inside, bookshelves designed by Kalach sit alongside furniture by Don Shoemaker, while Sergio Rodrigues chairs occupy the terrace. The house retains traces of what came before, including one original structure left entirely untouched and known among friends as la casa sin techo, the house without a roof. “It doesn’t have all the comforts of a conventional house,” Manzutto says, “but to fix that you would take out all the beauty of the place.”
