Today is International Petite Sirah Day. Theodora Lee has been producing award winning Petite Sirah from her estate in Yorkville Highlands for years now. Order yours today through the link in our bio page. The 2020 vintage is part of the Father’s Day Three Pack.
~
Petite Sirah is a unique grape for several reasons:

1. Mysterious origin: Although it was believed to be a true French Syrah grape, DNA testing in the late 1990s revealed that Petite Sirah results from crossbreeding between Syrah and Peloursin grapes, adding to its mystique.

2. Intense color and tannins: The grape is known for its dark, inky color and bold tannins, which give the wines their distinct character.

3. Versatility: Petite Sirah can be made into a single-varietal wine or used as a blending grape, adding depth, color, and tannic structure to other wines.

4. Longevity: Wines made from Petite Sirah often have great aging potential, evolving beautifully over time and rewarding those with patience.

5. California star: While it is not widely planted worldwide, Petite Sirah has found a home in California, where it thrives in the warm climate and produces wines with a bold, fruity character.

We have been fortunate to have @mistywinecat from Arizona, review our 2021 estate grown Petite Sirah recently. Here are her thoughts. We love the wonderful inclusion of her cats!
~
“Theopolis VineyardsPetite Sirah is unfined, unfiltered goodness- one of those wines that should be slowly sipped while savoring each drop (or if you have the willpower, hold onto it for a handful of years because it will continue to dazzle while we eagerly await new vintages to love;)...

I was lucky to able to try Theo-Patra Queen of the Vineyards 2017 Petite Sirah and was excited to try this 2021. Equal in swoon, but this vintage felt much brighter!

Incredible balance- it has the savory, earthy, ripe fruit, a bit of spice, pepper, and deep inky black/purple hue that you love in a bold red, but also has the finesse, acidity, and lighter feel to the palate that you love in a mouthwatering, medium-bodied white or dry rosé... and because if it’s complexity, it can be easily paired with heartier meat dishes as well as lighter fare/charcuterie boards- or as I prefer it, just paired with itself, because it’s just that good on its own.

Theodora R. Lee, aka Theo-Patra Queen of the Vineyards, owner and founder of @theopolisvineyards, makes amazing hand-crafted, small lot wines in California’s Yorkville Highlands. Head over to her page to learn more/try her wines!
