Eleven years old today. 🎂

Sawyer is the kind of kid who builds entire worlds—anime marathons, fantasy novels she’s writing herself, a crochet hook or a pencil almost always in her hands, designing things I couldn’t even imagine. She’s spent the last year seriously studying Japanese because she’s decided she’s going to live in Japan someday, and I’ve learned not to bet against her. Pink and black. Riding her Onewheel 🛹. A mind that’s always creating.

But here’s what I’ll brag about most: she loves deeply and makes family out of friends wherever we go. In a life with no fixed address, she plants roots in people. That’s a rarer trait than any of her talents—and she has plenty of those. 💕✨

Eleven years of the best thing we ever made.
Happy birthday, Sawyer.

As AI becomes more prominent in our everyday lives, I find myself outside more and more. Purchasing Lucy Purl was never about having boat status or showing off. It’s about getting out in nature, on the water, sharing memories with friends and family, teaching others to enjoy mother nature, to educate about fishing and to disconnect from technology.

AI may seem harmless, you may feel pressure to keep up but as someone who works on a computer with my fisheries job, I have this strong urge to turn away from AI and spend more time in nature. I too felt the pressure to keep up but once I learned the environmental impact AI has, I downright refuse to even associate myself with it.

I bought a boat so I could spend more time unplugged, out of service and eventually bring people out to do the same. My main goal now is to buy land to create even more experiences for people to get reconnected with nature. With the animals that provide the beautiful fiber we get to create with.

Since Lucy Purl has been in my life, so many friends have enjoyed coming out with me and I can’t wait to share with many more. I feel so grateful that my hard-work paid off and what better way to enjoy the fruits of your labor than with friends and family on the water!

It’s the ōSHen way!!!

Just another increasingly normal night in our life—sleeping under the stars and cooking good food out of the back of the truck.

I had a lot of fun making this video while smelling the garlic, herbs, and savory pork filling camp.

Chandler, who went to culinary school, doesn’t let truck camping limit what’s on the menu. Tonight she made Rigatoni with a spicy Calabrese-style pork ragù, finished with fresh produce we picked up from a local Oregon farmers market.

One of the hardest parts about events like this is that, once they’re over, you always think of better ways you could’ve made the video. But in the end, I decided I’d rather cram it all in than leave moments out.

I want to be able to look back and remember just how much fun this weekend was.

We spent the weekend in Sequim, Washington, for the Lavender Festival, where we got to meet up with several friends and share a few incredible days together. Ever heard of the Lavender Festival in Sequim, Washington?

To be clear, it’s pronounced —like “squid” with an M, not “Sea-quim.” Apparently I’m not much gooder at pronunciation… which my wife, @mitchellpartyof3 , is always happy to point out. 😂

A huge thanks to our friends, the Hu’s, and Sawyer’s friend for introducing us to the PNW Lavender Festival. We had an absolute blast! I also managed to eat an embarrassing amount of ice cream throughout the day.

I completely fell in love with the Puget Sound and found myself wishing I had several million dollars to buy a place there.

Growing up in Minnesota, I went to a lot of festivals, so I’ve become a bit of a festival critic over the years. This one easily earns a ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5/5 from me. Great food, live music, tons of variety, local vendors, U-pick lavender farms, and so much to see that it’s nearly impossible to experience it all in one visit.

We also met up with @theroamingroyals , which always makes full-time travel feel a little more grounded when you get to spend time with others living a similar lifestyle.

Hopefully we’ll make this an annual tradition!

Do you think I need 40’s and tons? Well, I’m an adult and can do what I want. So we decided to stay up past midnight another night. Camp overlooking the ocean, a mystical dream come true for those of us new to the overlanding community. Hung out on a beach I never would have had I not had the chance to meet up with Josh @dustandcamp with @hiddenwestadventures @jdmoffroadimports , Brian your making my rig feel small. How to have a great weekend. Went to Tillamook National Forrest and met up with a bunch of overlanders… had good food and whiskey, stayed up past my bedtime because I can. One of the best parts of full-time travel is discovering places we never would have stopped at otherwise. Harvest Hosts has become one of our favorite ways to do that—supporting local businesses while enjoying a unique overnight stay. @harvesthosts

Even when we’re on a schedule and headed to work the next morning, it’s a great excuse to slow down, enjoy a good meal, and meet some wonderful people who understand the ups and downs of life on the road.

😊🍺🌵 Sierra Nevada became one of my favorite labels back when I had it on the Smoky Mountain side of the states in North Carolina. Visiting the Sierra Nevada brewery in Chico was a bucket list item for me. So when I saw two of my favorite things collaborating — @nationalparkfoundation and the National Parks Series Joshua Tree Pale Ale — we had to grab it on our way out to Joshua Tree. It wasn’t enough to just have the beer, it had to be in Joshua Tree. Can’t wait to see which parks are next, @sierranevada
