LATITUDE Gallery is proud to presents its inaugural staff show — “Anchored”.

Started on the ground floor of a Williamsburg residence in 2020, LATITUDE set on this voyage with its mission in cultivating a thriving community of diverse voices in the art world and supporting Asian diasporic artists.

At LATITUDE, staff members manage every aspect of gallery life — from gallery sitting, handling artworks and installing exhibitions to photographing events, designing posters, and curating programs. Beyond the gallery, they take off their staff hats and continue their personal journeys as artists, designers and beyond. In fact, LATITUDE has been driven exclusively by artists and friends since its inception.

“Anchored” symbolizes both the personal growth of our staff and the grounding force that LATITUDE has provided amid the ongoing waves of changes. Just as an anchor holds firm in shifting waves, the staffs at LATITUDE Gallery have found stability and belonging in this lovely space. For them, being anchored is about finding home in the collaborative, ever-evolving environment they built together — a place where art and communities thrive. To be anchored is as close as one can get to being home when home feels scattered across many places.

The exhibition is on view at 64A Bayard Street from Aug 17th through Aug 27th 2024.

Opening Reception Aug 17th, Sat. 6-8pm

Let’s take a breath🌬️ I dream a lot about tropical worlds🌴🥥🌺 Here are some photographs taken in my mom’s hometown, Hainan - a province in Southern China, an island filled with moisture and palm trees. Zuya (@miukiia) signing off. Have a nice weekend (and spring break). Stay tuned to see more seniors and grads’ wonderful works <3.

(4/5) Hi, it’s Zuya (@miukiia) on my day 4 of taking over. Keep sharing my thesis project, “Mimicking Nature”. In this project, I use photography as a self-referential tool to observe constructed landscapes in institutions like zoos, aquariums, natural history museums, and extend this exploration to other spaces. I examine how they are formally created, especially how those spaces are oriented and developed, trying to figure out human environment relationship through the lens.
You can explore more details about this work on my website:).

(2/5) Hi, this is Zuya (@miukiia) again.
Here is a sneak peek of an ongoing work that I just started, thinking about embracing the fluidity of identities, memories, displacements and boundaries in the context of a multicultural background.

(1/5) Hi, this is Zuya Yang (@miukiia ) from Senior Photo taking over this week.
Today I will start with one of my early works at RISD, “An 1816 Summer”. The work responds to the effects of the Tambora volcano eruption in Indonesia in 1816 - temperature dropped, more reddish and orange tone sky colors...
I juxtaposed blurred historical artworks from 1816, altered the sky color, and tried to raise conversations about the past, present, and humans as part of the environment in a representative way.
You can explore more details about this work on my website :).
