๐—ง๐—ถ๐—ฑ๐—ฎ๐—น ๐—ฃ๐—ฟ๐—ผ๐—ท๐—ฒ๐—ฐ๐˜ ๐ŸŒŠ engages in supporting women artists working across photography, moving image, performance, installation, and other experimental approaches across Asia and beyond. Beginning with a publishing series, Tidal flows into artist monographs and extends to collective, curatorial, and discursive practices.

The first issue of Tidal, Shoreline, traces the shifting boundary between land and sea, using this imagery to explore the fluidity of histories, identities, memories and representations. By Reimagining photography as a site of resistance and care, this issue gathers artists who work with archives that drift between the weight of history and the triviality of domestic life.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who supported us throughout this journey, and to our pre-order readers who trusted and waited. Over the next several weeks, we will be sharing each artistโ€˜s worksโ€”follow us and stay tuned ๐Ÿ’™

is happy to release ๐“๐ซ๐š๐ oฬ„๐ข๐๐ข๐š ๐Ÿ an accordion book printed in silver ink on black paper. Art by Zhu Gaocanyue @zhu_gaocanyue Design by Zuya Yang @miukiia

Tragoฬ„idia, a word that is commonly understood as the root of โ€œtragedy,โ€ is often translated as โ€œgoat song.โ€ Its exact origin remains uncertain, yet the word is closely tied to ancient Greek performances and choral rituals connected to Dionysus, the god of wine, ecstasy, and collective intoxication. From these songs, ceremonies, and staged acts, tragedy gradually emerged as a dramatic form.

In ๐“๐ซ๐š๐ oฬ„๐ข๐๐ข๐š, the artist creates a psychic sequence of black-and-white images: a bodily, ecstatic, almost animal departure from the order of ordinary life; an inner carnival hidden behind reality; a memory continuously rewritten, distorted, and beautified.

Following zug pressโ€™s sold-out handmade editions of Dreaming of Being a Butterfly ๐Ÿ•ธ๏ธ which were made through risograph and several printmaking processes, ๐“๐ซ๐š๐ oฬ„๐ข๐๐ข๐š continues a related visual and emotional world as an offset-printed edition.

The goat and the butterfly appear as symbols of the artistโ€™s mental transition during a particular period of time: a state of dreaming and imagining, accompanied by sadness and isolation. It is an in-between moment, suspended in transformation.

๐“๐ซ๐š๐ oฬ„๐ข๐๐ข๐š Published by zug press, 2026. First edition of 200 copies.

Many thanks ๐Ÿ–ค to everyone who love and collect ๐“๐ซ๐š๐ oฬ„๐ข๐๐ข๐š during its release at LA Art Book Fair @printedmatter_artbookfairs in early May. It means so much to us!

zug press is now formally accepting ๐—ผ๐—ป๐—น๐—ถ๐—ป๐—ฒ ๐—ผ๐—ฟ๐—ฑ๐—ฒ๐—ฟ๐˜€ ๐Ÿ–‡๏ธ of this book! Link in bio. Please feel free to explore more publications at zugpress.com and email us to check availability.

This past Saturday, zug press joined UNFOLD Shenzhen @shanghaiartbookfair with our most recent publications and prints (^^)๏ฝž

1/2 of zug press, @zhu_gaocanyue gave a one-hour talk, After Images: Printed Matter, Exhibitions, and Public Programs. We got the chance to share more about each book weโ€™ve worked on, as well as a more detailed introduction to the works of the artists featured in Tidal Issue 1: Shoreline.

Throughout the fair, we met many new and familiar faces and had conversations with artists, publishers, and readers from the local and many others: Guangzhou, Shanghai, Macau, Hong Kong, Japan, Australia... These exchanges, encounters, and the relationships that continue beyond the books themselves remain one of our favorite parts of every book fair.

Thank you all! And special thanks to our artist Baijun @_bye6__ and best supporter @joshuaboulos for surviving the deadline rush with us ๐Ÿซถ

โ€˜s talk at Lightbox ๆ”ๅฝฑๅœ–ๆ›ธๅฎค has come to a close.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who joined us. We are grateful to Way and Jialin for sharing their practices and thoughts with us in person, and to Zhiqing, Wang Xuan, Liangbin, and the entire Lightbox team for their thoughtful preparation and support throughout the event.

Coming from different backgrounds, perspectives, and interests, we came together through books to share thoughts and experiences around images, artistic practices, publishing, and what it means to build a life as artists. Conversations like these are always deeply meaningful.

One of our favorite moments came at the end of the Q&A, when Liangbin turned the question back to the audience: โ€œWhat brought you to this event?โ€ For a moment, the roles between listeners and speakers were exchanged, and we learned that some people came because they already knew the speakers or the space, while others discovered the event by chance and decided to join. Encounters may begin unexpectedly, but the connections formed through books and conversations often leave some of the most precious and lasting memories.

The conclusion of this talk also marks a small milestone for Tidal Issue 1: Shoreline: all five artists featured in the book have now participated in at least one public program, sharing more about their artistic practices with audiences. Eight months after its publication, we are deeply grateful to everyone who has read, asked questions about, discussed, and welcomed this book into their collections.

Every gathering reminds us that zug pres taken in Lightboxๆ”ๅฝฑๅœ–ๆ›ธๅฎค by @zug.press

ใ€Meet Our New Friends from Miss Read 2026: zhaoyuefan, Lechen Zheng, & zug pressใ€‘

Miss Read @missreadberlin opened yesterday amidst sweltering heat at silent green @silent.green. I braced the heat to meet old and new friends at the fair, three of whom will be sharing at the bookspace next Mondayโ€”come say hi!

Counterflows: Diaspora, Desire, and Publishing
2026.06.29 (Mon)
19:00โ€“21:00
encounters bookspace
Prinzenallee 60, 13359 Berlin

Donation based admission

Join us for a sharing session with three Asian diasporic publishing practices, organised on the occasion of Miss Read 2026:

zhaoyuefan @fffanzy (Duฬˆsseldorf) will introduce her ongoing projects to suggest the potential of ephemera as a diasporic publishing strategy and discuss how publishing can take place beyond the form of โ€˜a bookโ€™. Starting from โ€˜why I am hereโ€™, her artistic practice moves between mediums, engaging playfully with different environments. She is co-founder of Mahjong Friends @mahjong_international and Nomad Papaya Books @nomadpapayabooks. She founded Little Business Press @littlebusinesspress in 2025.

Lechen Zheng @zhenglechen_617 (London) will reflect on the role of diaspora in her publishing practice and how queer & desire travels across cultures. Drawing on experiences of sexual repression, coded language, and censorship, she will discuss the possibilities that emerged after leaving the original cultural context, the challenges of working between languages, audiences, and value systems, considering what becomes visible, what remains untranslatable, and how culturally specific stories of desire create ripples across cultures.

Focusing on the Tidal Project, Zuya Yang @miukiia, co-founder of zug press @zug.press (New York/Hong Kong) will introduce their approach to photographic practices through publishing, and how these practices connect artists, communities and transregional contexts. Tidal engages with women artists working across photography, moving image, performance, installation, and other experimental approaches across Asia and beyond. Beginning with a publishing series, Tidal flows into artist monographs and extends to collective, curatorial, and discursive practices. taken in Berlin, Deutschland by @zug.press
