Running Melb half this year wasn’t in my plans, you never know what opportunities might come your way!

Whirlwind 5 days catching up with friends, multiple shakeouts, plenty of food and of course running the half dressed as a nose ahah. Fair bit of content to come on YouTube!

Yesterday was about so much more than running the @melbmara half marathon…

Having my two worlds come together was honestly one of the best parts of the weekend. Steve’s family and friends here in Melbourne and our Gold Coast running crew all together. Two parts of my life that don’t usually cross paths, all sharing the same weekend.

And then there was the race itself!

A 9:45am start… definitely a little late for us Gold Coasters who are used to starting our sessions at 4:45am. Full sunshine, heat and a bit of wind, but instead of complaining, I kept visualising myself running the Seaworld Drive section back home, where we do so many of our sessions in exactly these conditions. Just another hot and windy day on the Gold Coast, right?

I came away with 4th female overall, which I honestly wasn’t expecting! Super happy with the placing, even if the time wasn’t quite what I had hoped for. Maybe it was the conditions or maybe I’m just more suited to the longer distances 🤷‍♀️

The only things I’d love to see changed for future editions are an earlier start and perhaps separate race days for the marathon and half marathon. The water stations also got pretty congested with the marathon runners and all the discarded cups made the surface slippery underfoot. Hopefully, that’s something the organisers can look at.

But the race was only a small part of the day.

Post race drinks with the crew, lots of laughs, an Indian dinner, squeezing into a maxi cab together and heading back to the hotel… just one of those days you wish you could bottle up.

This is what makes running so special. It’s the people, the connections and all the memories made around those kilometres.

The running brought us to Melbourne, but the people made the weekend ❤️

Race weekend update …

The good news? My scans came back clear of any bone injuries! HamduilAllah

The not-so-good news? I’m dealing with tendinitis, FAI and a few other minor issues that I’m hoping to work through. Unfortunately, the pain in my lower back is still there, and I can’t even jog at the moment. So, there’s no marathon for me tomorrow, not even just for fun.

Am I disappointed? Absolutely. After all the work that goes into a marathon build, it’s hard to accept that you won’t get to the start line.

But it’s important to look at the bigger picture. Europe will be an opportunity for me to work on my speed, race some shorter distances and rebuild before returning to the marathon distance. My sub-3:15 goal isn’t going anywhere! And I’ve already registered for Seoul Marathon in March. InshAllah, I’ll be back stronger. 🤞🏼

For now, I’ll be cheering on all the lucky ones who get to experience the magic tomorrow.

And of course, a special shoutout to my man @mattinglisfox ! The day is finally here, and he’s going after his best. Wish him some luck! Have fun, race smart and run for both of us! 🥰

We said “let’s be reasonable today” 😂 Yeah… that didn’t happen.

Final session before @melbmara Half Marathon and somehow we ended up going VERY fast. New shoes picked, race-week tiredness has officially arrived (completely normal for me), but I’m getting bloody excited now.

Buckle up 👀 Melbourne, we’re coming.

WEEK 2 OF NO RUNNING — PROJECT 2:50 STARTS NOW! 💪🏃‍♂️

We’ve got the results from the scan… Grade 4A stress reaction. 😮‍💨

Thankfully, we caught it just in time before it progressed into something much worse.

For the next 4–5 weeks, the running shoes are staying on the shelf while we put the work in on the bike and cross trainer 🚴‍♂️🔥

It’s not the setback I wanted, but it’s just another part of the journey. The goal hasn’t changed — we’re just taking a different road to get there.

And if everything goes to plan, we’ll be back pounding the pavement soon and ready to build properly towards PROJECT 2:50 MARATHON! 🎯🔥

Tomorrow we find out if our group gets into Osaka Marathon 🇯🇵🤞

If we get the green light, the countdown is on… and I’ll be ready to build smart, stay patient and give this everything I’ve got.

We rest. We reset. We rebuild. Then we RUN. 🫶💪🤞🏃‍♂️
