𝐊𝐞𝐞𝐩 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐒𝐚𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐝𝐚𝐲, 𝐌𝐚𝐲 𝟗𝐭𝐡, 𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐧. 𝐕𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐞𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐬𝐞 𝐢𝐬 𝐫𝐞𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠!

Versehouse is a cozy, intimate space for anyone who feels the pull to write. Maybe it’s been a while. Maybe you’ve never begun. Either way, there’s a place for you here.

We’ll offer a single prompt, and you can follow it wherever it wants to take you. Poetry, short stories, scripts, or pro-people journalism are all welcome. There’s no right way to enter.

Think of writing and parallel play in candlelight, and that is Versehouse.

Marieliz and I have been sitting with the theme, and we both arrived at the same word:

“𝚂𝚎𝚙𝚊𝚛𝚊𝚝𝚒𝚘𝚗.”

In the spirit of NaPoWriMo, we’ll be sharing prompts in the days leading up. If you feel called, come write with us, and let yourself be carried by whatever surfaces.

Happy Easter!

I've been off of social media all of Lent so if you were wondering where I went, it was out of here to be more present to God in all things, people, and places around me. And I've gotta say, it was nice to not be caught in the constant scroll... I still got my news from other places, continued to show up for the causes I believe in, and managed to do it without being as dependent on the Zuckiverse.

I savored more, cherished more, and texted friends instead of DMing on the apps!

I celebrated my first wedding anniversary with Arend in Idyllwild, wrote reflections for @christusministries @catholicartistconnection and Jesuit Media Lab, made some rosaries and jewelry, said goodbye to friends who moved away and met new ones, became more connected with my neighbors, shared in others observance of Ramadan and celebrated breaking fast, played my ukulele more, held space for loved ones at memorial services, practiced more self care, served as a Confirmation sponsor, and spent some quality time with God and my cats.

I will likely be spending less time here going forward and perhaps sharing more updates via my mailing list. It's been awhile since I sent out a newsletter but I think it's time to resume writing more. If you'd like to connect off of here feel free to email me at jgerhardtmusic@gmail.com or DM me and I can add you to my mailing list.

Easter blessings to you all! May you all find abundant new life in this season!

2025. A year of beautiful places, Spirit-led adventures, great friends and family, and lots of Jesus! Praise God for His abundance, closeness, faithfulness, and steadfast love. Life is a gift, and the Giver is good! Here's to being radically in love with the Lord in 2026. More, Lord! 🫶🏼❤️‍🔥

The whole breadth of 2025 weighs heavy on December. December reminds me of how much I lived this year. I see my past lives dwelling within the last three hundred sixty five days. The last quarter of the year felt like a new life, and while I feel happier and loved, I still feel the unsteadiness of the world around me. I don’t know if 2026 will be any better, but at least I have you, and you, and loved ones by my side.

Welcome to VERSE HOUSE! This is our second writing session! 🕯️☕️📖📝

We invite you to join us for an afternoon of creative writing and art making. In the spirit of the holidays, our theme is “in the hearth of home” and exploring what that means to you in this season. It will be an afternoon of poetry, prose, and collaging.

Please come and bring your hearts, minds, and creative spirits as we collectively listen to a short reading that reflects our theme. We’ll then have a little discussion, and some time to write, collage, and journal.

Please bring a beverage or a snack to share. Tis the season! Please message either of us and RSVP if you can join.

Hope to see you all there!
