Got to have my piece At the Water’s Edge in It’s called Lake Ontario, a show curated by @matt_vanderlee and @mlmgraphic at Frank’s Chop Shop. If you missed the opening, it’ll be up all month, so you still have time to check it out.

Right after leaving the show we ended up seeing a raccoon, which felt pretty fitting 😂 Thought I’d also share another piece I finished over the summer and a sketch I’m currently working on.

Excited to get back into painting and see where it takes me.

At the Water’s Edge

When most people think of a Great Blue Heron, they picture it standing still at the water’s edge, patiently waiting for the right moment to strike a fish from above with its powerful beak. But fish aren’t their only prey. Herons will also hunt and eat snakes.

In this piece, the snake represents Donald Trump and the way I see his influence slithering through our government and into the natural spaces that belong to all of us. Changes involving our National Parks, BLM lands, and even the names tied to the waters and landscapes around us made me think about how quickly places we see as permanent can become political.

The herons represent nature pushing back. They surround and consume the snake, turning the relationship between predator and prey into something symbolic. At the Water’s Edge is about protecting the land, water, and wildlife that were here long before any administration and will hopefully remain long after one.

Raccoons figured out city living faster than most of us did. 😂
