My brother Taj @menofcouragephl I’m checking in checking again in and giving a little insight into this journey of running a nonprofit organization.
.
People want the quick way, but where GOD has us and where He’s taking us requires time, patience, and a foundation strong enough to sustain what we’re building. Some things you just can’t rush.
.
For anybody trying to jump in this lane, make sure you love the work and the people enough to stay consistent when the funding is low, the recognition is quiet, and the responsibilities keep coming. Build relationships. Keep your word. Be willing to serve when nobody is watching. The community needs to know they can depend on you.
.
This work will humble you, but it also keeps you grounded in gratitude. We know it’s only by the grace of GOD that we have the strength to keep showing up and sustain what He’s entrusted to us.
.
Slow and steady still wins the race. Don’t let somebody else’s pace make you rush your process. You can grow and make a real impact without compromising your values or integrity. Keep your heart pure, put the work in, and let GOD handle the timing. 💯🌱

One day I’m on a stage receiving an award… the next day I’m back at the Treehouse cleaning the bathroom 😂🤦🏾‍♂️ CEO and janitor it’s all the same to me. 😩😩😩
.
People see the honors, the major panels, the pictures and the recognition… but when I get back to the building, somebody still gotta sweep out front and take the trash out. And a lot of times that somebody is ME 💯
.
I love what I do, but I’d be lying if I said it this work is not heavy sometimes. Trying to find the money, lead the team, show up for the kids, support the families and make sure the building is together. Let alone take care my family and husbandly duties some days I’m tired before the program even starts.
.
It’s all good because I know where I get my strength from and I thank GOD for trusting me with this mission everyday. #ToGODTheGlory
.
The same hands that hold the awards still take out the trash. Being celebrated doesn’t mean I’m finished serving I choose to serve more🌱💪🏾💪🏾🌱

✨ Because of the Trust… communities are growing!

In Episode 5 of Because of the Trust, we’re highlighting Mentor Leaders Produce Mentor Leaders, a Fall 2025 awardee of the Pathways to Impact Grant by the Leon H. Sullivan Charitable Trust! We got to speak with Vincent Garrett, founder and Executive Director of MLPML.

Garrett speaks to founding a program he saw was needed in his community. With an educational background, he felt his purpose included, but was not limited to, the classroom. Whether he knew it or not at the time, MLPML’s mission is the type of initiative that pushes forward the vision of Reverend Dr. Leon H. Sullivan. Community through provided opportunity.

When small businesses thrive, communities do too. Especially Because of the Trust!
