THURSDAY 🗞️ DUMP
• The U.S. Supreme Court again rejected a push to use Missouri congressional maps backed by President Donald Trump on Thursday, a loss for Republicans trying to maintain control of the House in the fast-approaching midterm elections.

• Trump pledged Wednesday to send every American adult $5,000 if Republicans retain control of the House and Senate in the midterm elections. The dubious promise would likely cost more than $1 trillion and require congressional approval, and would further exacerbate the country’s nearly $1.8 trillion annual budget deficit and concerns about inflation.

• Helena Foulkes defeated Rhode Island Gov. Dan McKee in the state’s Democratic primary Wednesday, making him the first governor in any U.S. state to lose a party primary since 2018.

• Jimmy Kimmel announced on Wednesday night that his show would not air his upcoming interview with Texas Democratic Senate candidate James Talarico on television, citing the Trump administration’s threats against ABC.

Kimmel said that during President Donald Trump’s administration, the Federal Communications Commission “has threatened me, threatened our show, threatened our network, ABC, our affiliates, our local stations, based on simple, traditional editorial decisions, guest bookings it would seem they don’t like.”

• Apple on Wednesday unveiled its first foldable phone, called the iPhone Duo, a device that opens like a book into a wide screen. The announcement marks the biggest change to the iPhone since it was introduced in 2007, and an entry into a category that Samsung has dominated for years.

Today’s topic: The Texas Senate race between Talarico and Paxton is heating up.

In the past couple of months, Democrat James Talarico’s chances of becoming Texas’s next senator have surged. He’s now neck and neck with Republican Ken Paxton, with Polymarket odds showing a 50% chance for Talarico vs. 51% for Paxton.

Talarico’s surge is tied in part to a plea deal Paxton’s office cut with a Waco attorney, Adam Hoffman, who admitted to molesting a child. Hoffman got 30 days in jail and lost his law license, but because he didn’t plead to the original felony charge, he never had to register as a sex offender. Not a great look for Paxton. And by “not a great look” I mean absolutely disgusting.

Talarico has been demanding Paxton release internal records on how the deal came together, and Paxton’s office has refused. Even Republican Senator John Cornyn attacked Paxton over it during their primary, running ads asking why he “goes easy on child predators.”

Talarico, a devout Christian, has also recently slammed Texas’s new THC ban, which would send Texans to prison for up to 10 years for possession of only 4 grams — and up to life in prison for 400 grams. An absolutely mind-blowing law considering the fact that 69% of Texans support decriminalizing possession for personal use (according to a 2025 University of Houston Hobby School survey).

“The Democratic Party has forgotten how to fight, but this critical moment in our country’s history demands fighters, not folders. It’s time to start flipping tables.”
— James Talarico

I love this guy. Do the right thing, Texas!
