POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Help us wish our Co-Founder (@iamd.c.smith), internal (and external) #influencer, content creator, resident 👟-guy, unofficial tech support, biggest cheerleader, and the 🧡-beat of everything we do here at PHKC a very 🎉 Happy Birthday 🎉! We'd argue you deserve more flowers than you accept - but maybe that's because you've spent years being the ground they grow in (supporting sentence credits to our pal Claude). You lead by being unreasonable when it counts, and by reminding us to stay human along the way. Grateful we get to build this with you. - Your Team

When I was a wee baby ecosystem builder at Startland, @erin__chan was our @kauffmanfdn Impact Officer. @iamd.c.smith and @cthompsonkc were making their first moves as founders of @theporterhousekc and @innovateher_kc hadn’t even been thought of yet.

Almost a decade ago, we were in the trenches, all kinda learning the ropes, working to serve the entrepreneurial ecosystem in the deepest, most impactful ways, and on many days, looking for our rhythm. We did it together.

We always do.

The amount of life that has happened between now and then boggles the mind, I think for all of us. Truly staggering.

Which is why it felt like such a full circle moment to come together to talk about entrepreneurial support with @yep_kc students on the @811retail back porch yesterday. To sit with these people who have been my colleagues, compatriots, and friends, and talk about how we got here and why it matters with some bright, eager kids ready to start their own journey. Such a pleasure and an honor.

Plus, a smattering of other things and people that bring me joy because it was a two-carousel week and those are the best.

As you see.

-long post incoming- We wanna send a huge thanks to all of the peeps that were involved with this past weekends Our Healthy Jackson County Health ( @ourhealthyjacksoncounty )Event held at the Guadeloupe Center!

We served well over 100 community members, had a phenomenal DJ and provided free food… These events mean so much to our community for various reasons. We were able to provide flu vaccines, Covid vaccines, pre screening for cancer, STI screenings, the Goodwill was in attendance, the team with KC Digital Drive, After the Harvest gave away fresh fruits and vegetables, and so much more…

None of this would have been possible without our County Executive Frank White, and the Legislators… and Dr. Beverly-Patton with the UMKC school of Medicine… Over the last few years we were able to do this work with so many community partners, and sectors including - Neighborhoods, Churches, Business, and Youth organizations…

Hopefully we will have the opportunity to continue this work, but it’s not up to us… it will be up to the County Legislature to budget for this important work🤞🏾

Thank you for allowing us to be apart. We are hopeful that this work will be able to continue!

We had the honor of cohosting the culminating networking event, “GEWKC Closeout: Tales of Resiliency” with @kcsourcelink, @theporterhousekc, and @iwerx1 and the whole experience just gladdened our hearts.

Real, vulnerable conversations were had. And then we networked with purpose. There was a little dancing to the beats of @djnessofficial.

It was all incredible, thanks to the hard work of folks like Michael Carmona, @iamd.c.smith, @mmm_schultz14 and Paula Brooks.

We are so proud to be a part of this community, in this city, with these people. That is all.

In my work, I talk a lot about what I call the Great Conveners - the things that every society separately and intentionally developed through known history simply because it’s what is in us to do.

Food. Language. Music. Art. Ritual. Family.

Cultural constants, universals that make up our identities with clear patterns just enough variations to keep things interesting. The Great Conveners can also be great unifiers because they tend to bring us joy - and the most powerful joy is shared. They can unite rather than divide because they teach us what it means to be human.

Last night at @childrensmercypark, @thehubargentine held the “Taste of Argentine” featuring celebrity @chefpyet and gave us all a reminder of that.

The community showed UP and OUT for the evening, raising funds for Neighbor’s Kitchen, a proposed “shared-use community kitchen designed to support local entrepreneurs, build community and promote health and wellness.”

On the evening’s menu: Artists sharing depictions of the immigrant experience in live painting sessions, instrumental sounds wafting across the room, a tamale making demonstration with Chef Pyet, a menu honoring indigenous culture and flavors, and so much deliciousness, it was astounding. Plus, a huge SB ring. 🤷‍♀️

Thanks to The Hub Argentine, and to the @kauffmanfdn for the opportunity to be a part of the night. ‘Twas a delightful nudge from the Universe that we share more than we think.
