Recently I took a job which has taken the chance to invest in me and embrace my roughness; as a black man I often feel it’s difficult to be seen in Fashion and many other fields for all black people. Seeing Naomi Campbell, André Leon Talley, Edward Enninful, Russell Simmons, Daymond John, Damon Dash, Diddy, Pharrell Willams, Kanye West, Shayne Oliver and Virgil Abloh all work in Fashion, build brands, elevate companies and share codes with us is something that I really appreciate and respect. They’ve shown me since I was a kid that traveling the world and working in fashion is possible for me. Since I was 12yrs old I would go to the grocery store with my mom and go straight to the magazine isle while she would do her shopping. I would take all of the Vogue, GQ, XXL, Source, Complex and People magazines out to read through and see all of the fashion from all over the united states. When I would look through People magazine and Us Weekly during Fashion Week I was able to see black celebrities at Fashion Shows in Milan, Paris and New York. I knew then that fashion was the industry I wanted to work in when I was an adult and I wanted to travel off of the work.

Here I am many years later in Italy building beautiful relationships with people from all over the world connecting over our passion for fashion and beauty. When I speak on beauty I speak on the beauty of humanity when we look through the lens of human connection and the creative consciousness. Speaking family, fashion and philosophy over dinner and lots of wine is something I manifested for so long. I’m so lucky to have friends whom I’ve been able to see travel and work in this industry for many years also showing me that it’s possible for me to do the same. I’ve had to make many sacrifices to finally step into myself. This post isn’t about my physical trip; its about the mental fortitude we as creatives and black people have to forge for ourselves to achieve and be accepting of our destiny. We do belong in those rooms, we are deserving of being seen. Its easy to give up on life, its easy to burry ourselves in someone else’s dream to our own detriment but we have to say “FUCK ALL OF THAT!!!”.
