newest ep highlights my favorite Mogwai songs, or at least as varied and comprehensive of a showcase of their eminent output that i could cram into 2 hours. a runtime oh so easily doubled (tripled!) but, alas, many classics and b-side treasures were left on the cutting room floor ("Like Herod," "You Don't Know Jesus," "Hugh Dallas," "Xmas Steps," "My Father My King," "Sine Wave," "Ratts of the Capital," of course "Fear Satan") not to mention their plethora of film-score contributions. \ having said that, i sure did my damndest to illuminate the band's many facets & corners: axe-forward belters like "Ceiling Granny" and "Killing All the Flies," downcast chamber-glitchery of "Superheroes of BMX," sepiatone tearjerkers like "Burn Girl Prom Queen" and "Tracy," all the way to out&out stunners "Helicon 1," "Auto Rock" and "2 Rights Make 1 Wrong," prime examples of the kind of epic widescreen bombast-bliss on which they've built their name since the mid 90s. \ i love it all, i hope it shows. one of those bands where, as much as i (clearly) try, fancy words fall short. (but i won't use 'post-rock' as a descriptor because honestly fuck that term, that shit's played out.) \ mix available in the linkamabob. thanks. be well. xoxo.

on the next All Flowers in Time Bend Towards the Sun: a tribute to Mogwai, the Scottish maestros of heaven-sent cacophony, featuring selections from throughout their towering catalogue, 1996 to present. i've lived inside their songs for over fifteen years now, and to do them justice would be to exorbitantly extend well beyond the confines of a 2-hour radio show. this will have to do: a mere primer on the most heart-rending and ear-crushing band in the entire godforsaken cosmos. this coming Thurs, 8pm pacific, airing on @freeformpdx 🛰🎻✨

wanted to switch it up and highlight ambient-esque music utilizing actual guitars and "live" instrumentation. hence 2 hours of pastoral mysticism and mostly slowcore-adjacent material, from perennial paramours like Early Day Miners and For Carnation to newer crushes like Hood and Oren Ambarchi. as well as an accidental selection of film-score oddities from Lanois and Jarre. plus a real stunner by Giselle @37735i6 – can't recall how our paths crossed but i'm nonetheless grateful; listen to her music, you're welcome in advance. and if you know me, y'know i'm low(high?)key obsessed with Talk Talk and Mark Hollis: so there's also a section where i play five different takes on "New Grass" because it's my show and i'll lament the passing of time and loss of youthful innocence by sobbing into my pillow if i motherfucking want to. that SF59 deep cut also cuts deep. oof. so yeah anyway check it out i guess and find it in the usual linky-doo (or don't who gives a hoot yadda yadda yadda) xoxo

greyscale Midwestern malaise. damp floodplains and soot-covered snowpiles. covering the windows to escape the midday heat, opening them later to feel a sudden but welcome breeze at four in the AM. breaths suspended in frigid air. the calls of native birds in the fields yonder. seasons cycle in and out, gradual yet blurred. songs to look back on. songs to embrace and be embraced by. songs to extend into past lives and maybe into the next one. ✜ new installment of All Flowers in Time Bend Towards the Sun airs on @freeformpdx tmrw night, Thurs, 8pm pacific, at freeformportland(dot)org. only if you want to. thanks.

new episode of All Flowers in Time Bend Towards the Sun: airing on @freeformpdx this THURS, 8pm pacifique, best dialed in by streaming on FreeformPortland(dot)org;— two hours of wispy murmurs, anodyne chants, horizon chasing, ... grasping for the sublime and settling for the bittersweet, as you outstretch your limbs and hone your ears outward and wait for some kind of signal or omen or pattern and are instead met with— (tune in to find out what) (more, or less) xoxo

LATEST INSTALLMENT of All Flowers in Time Bend Towards the Sun now up on that grand old mix in the clouds (link in the biography); sadly unaired which shall be rectified in the near future; until then you may subject yourself to 2 fussily crafted hours split 50/50 'twixt intimate-lakeside dubstyle slash gentle sensory-meridian inflections & sizzling endless-boogie peak-time limb-contorting polyrhythmic trance/technoid elation (feat. among other things: my favorite tune from last year, Alphonse's stunning "Beechwood"; recent obsessions Luc Ferrari, Annea Lockwood, oldskool trance a la "Mystery Land"; longtime darlings Joy O, Hauschildt, the 'Gwai, Squarepusher, Traumprinz/Metatron) – while satisfying my inexplicable urge to throw a couple real humdinger curveballs in certain spots. too much genre/stylistic purism around nowadays. phooey, i say! let's get stupid! you only YOLO once, folx, SO CH-CHECK IT OUT. 🤯 (swipe for bonus previews of potential future eps) (also go hug your mom if you can because your mom deserves it)
