The video you are about to watch was created through the artistic collaboration of choreographer Mirko Giordano, filmmaker Christian Gargarelli, makeup artist Angie Valentino, and dancer Serena Valentino for the Fini Dance Festival in Villapiana–New York, directed by Antonio Fini.

Today, this artistic project carries an even deeper meaning: the video, thanks to Ornella Fado will be used to open a series of events organized by the Comites of New York dedicated to the issue of domestic violence.

For more than ten years, Mirko Giordano and Antonio Fini have used dance and art to address violence against women and femicide because they believe that the stage can—and must—also become a space for speaking out, raising awareness, and creating change.

This year, we decided to bring this choreography back to New York, where it began through Nicola Iervasi’s emerging choreographer series program. What we could never have imagined was that an issue we have been addressing for so many years would suddenly touch us so personally and so close to home.

A dear woman from our hometown, Ornella Forastefano, was killed by her partner.

Today, this work is also for her.

Femicide is real. Violence against women is real. And we cannot afford to stop talking about it.

We must continue to educate, raise awareness, speak out, and, above all, find increasingly effective ways to protect those living in situations of violence.

Art cannot bring a life back, but it can refuse to remain silent.
