Then, the music hits. All the sacrificed sleep, the months of sweat in rehearsals, and the early morning hustle vanish into a surge of adrenaline. Every dancer, musician, and performer gives absolutely everything they have. They take to the parade route not just to perform, but to declare who they are—dancing with uninhibited joy, moving with fluid power, and inviting the entire city to celebrate the living, breathing heart of Carnaval together…. To be continued …..the dancing will come later ….. @carnavalsf @sanfrancisco.explores @secret_sanfrancisco @sfbucketlist @onlyinsf

Capturing the San Francisco Carnaval 2026 before leaving was more than just a creative project; it was a profound privilege. Walking through those lively streets, I didn’t just witness the energy—I felt the beating heart of a community. I saw connection, strength, and joy, and it filled me with an unforgettable pride to be a part of something so much larger than myself.
Rendering these moments in black and white strips away the noise and reveals the raw, eternal soul of the celebration. They aren’t just photographs; they are timeless memories I will honor and carry with me forever. I love what I do, and these black-and-white images will always stand as a sacred tribute to a community I am deeply proud to belong to. #sanfrancisco #missiondistrict #sfcarnaval2026 #community #celebratingcommunity @carnavalsf @sanfrancisco.explores @secret_sanfrancisco @onlyinsf @calle24_sf

@carnavalsf you have delivered again 🌟1/2 a million people in the streets of the Mission 🤩 So many amazing Artists! I feel blessed to study Afro-Brazilian Culture and Dance under @tainah.damasceno Artistic Director of @bras_arte and @blocogingabrasil 🩵💙 Brasarte continues to connect the Bay Area direct to Brazil and to the roots of samba, 25 years after our Founder Conceição Damasceno began bringing teaching artists from her home in Bahia. Our theme this year RECÔNCAVO: UMBIGO DO MUNDO honors the fertile ground that birthed Samba, Capoeira, Maculelê as the pillars of Brazilian Popular Arts Culture we see today. To dance with BGB is an indescribable experience and an absolute privilege. Hopefully these images of the pre party give you an idea. Thank you Tainah, Kellyn and Nick and our leadership team. More photos to come 💙🩵
