Presenting world-class art, locally.

POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

In June 2025, Free Plastic and O, Miami installed their 24th exhibition in a series of public art works entitled Plastic Poetry.

Plastic Poetry is a series of community activations that blends recycling plastic, plastic pollution, beach cleanups, public art, and poetry. Three poems, written in three languages, were installed on the facade of @mocanomi. When united as a singular expression, the texts by Angela Delgado, Jennifer Kramer, and previous MOCA Teen Art Force student Rebeca Lugo Carrillo show how poetry can foster a communal discourse on space, people, and individuals.

The five-inch letters are rendered in 49.78 lbs of recycled post-consumer plastic and plastic pollution harvested from from various community cleanups & collection groups found throughout Miami-Dade County.

Partnering with @mocanomi in my hometown to facilitate these creative craft workshops has been so fulfilling. And the response from you all to have spaces like this made available encourages me to keep doing this work.

Last week we shared an intimate session learning the history of aromatic smoke and perfumery, how to make your own botanical incense blend and create lasting memories with community. Participants had a safe space to be vulnerable, feel supported and be reminded of who they are and how they can show up as their authentic best self. Yes, even an incense workshop can be therapeutic and healing.

Thank you for giving me the opportunity to teach, to share my gifts and art with community. Our next workshop will be a fun happy hour in Nov. Stay tuned

MOCA: The Art of Aromatic Smoke
Saturday, October 10 | 1pm
Museum of Contemporary Art
770 NE 125 Street, North Miami

In this hands-on workshop, Emmy Etienne will guide participants through the ancient art of incense crafting. Inspired by traditions that span thousands of years, Emmy invites you to slow down, awaken your senses, and reconnect with the nostalgic power of fragrance. Working with raw, natural materials like the sacred resins of frankincense and myrrh, woods, herbs, aromatic spices, and delicate florals each participant will set a personal intention and craft their own handmade incense cones to take home.

It may be fall already, but in Miami we feel that summer sun all year long 😎🌤️ For the final installment of this year’s Summer Roadtrip Series, we visited our friends at @mocanomi to see the Museum’s newest exhibitions and learn more about upcoming events visitors can attend on-site later this year! With our monthly $5 museum ticket drop, you can always look forward to new arts and cultural experiences–no matter what the weather is 😉
To learn more about these offerings and additional community engagement opportunities, including MOCA’s very own Teen Art Force, follow the Museum of Contemporary Art, North Miami, on its socials 🖼️💫

Also, to visit MOCA NOMI or any other museum in our lineup this month, head to cultureshockmiami.com to secure your tickets!

This may be the last of our summer vlogs for this year, but there is still so much fun to come! Follow us to see what’s in store later on this year… 🤭
