Tonight, I joined colleagues for Mayor Muriel Bowser and the DC Council’s Congressional Black Caucus Washington Leadership Reception.

Enjoyed spending time with members of the community, along with Amber Jackson of the Mayor’s Office of Veterans Affairs and Heather Gibson of the Mayor’s Office on African American Affairs. It was a pleasure sharing the evening with so many familiar and new faces from across the District.

A wonderful evening highlighting leadership, partnership, and the spirit of Washington, DC during CBC Week. ❤️

Each one. Reach one.

My colleagues in the Mayor’s office hosted a reception with panel discussions on doing business in the District and trade with international entities. African Heritage Month celebration meets Congressional Black Caucus Foundation’s Annual Legislative Conference (CBC Week).

So nice, we had to do it twice! 🎬✨Last night, we brought the exact same energy back to @busboysandpoets for an incredible encore of Summer Cinema: Dinner and a Movie!
Partnering with @whuttv, @dcmowpi, and @moccadc for a second night of screening the moving documentary “A Mother Apart” proved exactly what we already knew… this community’s appetite for art, connection, and vital conversation is unmatched.

Together, we dove back into the deep complexities of forgiveness and building chosen family beyond traditional boundaries. A massive thank you to @msmikoreed for sharing your beautiful words with us yet again, to our phenomenal partners for making this possible, and to everyone who showed up for Round 2!#WeArtDC #SummerCinema #AMotherApart #Encore #DCFilm

OHR kicked off African Heritage Month over the weekend with @moaa_dc and community members at the DC Unity Soccer Cup!

We had a great time connecting with residents from across DC as teams represented their cultures in a free soccer tournament alongside MPD, strengthening community–law enforcement relationships in our neighborhoods.

Which team do you think took home the win?

BRINGING THE TROPICAL FLAVOR TO WARD 7! 🌴✨

Honored to lead the movement for the Ward 7 Senior Lunchtime Mix & Mingle Series! There is nothing quite like the energy, the smiles, and the pure joy of moving with our seniors. Huge thank you to the Greater Washington Urban League, the Mayor's Office on Caribbean Affairs, and Inova Health for having Mr. VYBES bring the Caribbean flavor! 👑💛

To continue our celebration of Black Business Month, the Mayor’s Office on African American Affairs is proud to recognize Sapodilla’s Authentic Caribbean Cuisine, a Black-owned business bringing the flavors of the Caribbean to the Great Ward 8.

Director Snider of the Mayors Office on Caribbean Community Affairs spoke with founder Samantha Abrams to hear the story behind Sapodilla’s, and what it means to build and grow a business in Historic Anacostia.

Inspired by her Guyanese heritage, Sapodilla’s has been serving authentic Caribbean cuisine since 2007. Today, its Ward 8 location continues that legacy while contributing to the growth and vitality of the Anacostia community.

Visit Sapodilla’s at 1215 Marion Barry Avenue SE.
