THIS IS IT!! We saved the best for last. This will be the last One Mic Stand with SJ of 2026 and we are ending this year with a killer show. Our features Natalie Ilda and Mario Rubio from HOT PEOPLE READ POETRY will grace the stage and bring the 🔥. Plus Special Guest Delilah Saul, a documentarian and founder of @outlawmediacpmpany will also be in attendance as we will have our collaboration with Hot People Read Poetry on Nov 20th when they will have their event in Jersey City!! You don’t want to miss a thing!!

Natalie Gilda believes SWers are inherent storytellers, which is what makes them such amazing writers. She is the creator and host of Hot People Read Poetry, a SWer founded and focused open mic experience and poetry show in NYC. She also cohosts an interview series, Pink Dancing Poets.

Maria Rubio (she/they) is a born and raised New Yorker with roots in the Philippines. Her writing explores everything that she comes in contact with as a Brown queer woman who is building community within the belly of capitalism.

Delilah Saul is a SWer, documentarian, and founder of @outlawmediacompany. Her recent film, “Beloved”, explores the impact of stigma on the love lives of SWers. She’s currently directing and producing a documentary about media bias against SWers. She hosts SW + LOVE, a podcast about navigating personal relationships as a SWer.

❤️📚 I got to take photos with some truly wonderful people at the inaugural Jersey City Book Fair, and looking back at these moments makes me feel so blessed and grateful!

From our amazing vendors, panelists, and featured performers to the attendees who came out to support us, I’m so thankful for everyone who shared their time, talent, stories, and energy with us. 🥹✨

Creating something from the ground up takes a village, and being surrounded by so many people who believe in the power of books, storytelling, representation, and community means more than words can express.

Thank you for showing up, showing love, and being part of this first chapter. My heart is full, and I’m excited for what’s ahead! ❤️🙌🏾📖

NOTHING IS GONNA STOP US NOW especially with features like JRose and Marc Polite who are going to bring the 🔥. Just another classic One Mic Stand with SJ and it’s all going down TOMORROW!!!

Jasmine Rosario, known artistically as JRose is an international spoken word artist, teaching artist, and community builder from Queens, New York. She began performing poetry at 16 and has since transformed her passion into a career dedicated to amplifying voices and creating spaces where stories can be told with honesty and power.

JRose is the founder of The Rose Garden Events, a thriving performance platform that has become a safe haven for poets, storytellers, and creatives. As a visionary cultural organizer and Executive Producer of The JRose Experience Talk Show, she continues to build opportunities that uplift artists and foster meaningful connection through storytelling and performance.
A decorated slam poet, JRose has won numerous competitions across the country, including the 2023 BRIC Brooklyn Grand Slam Finals, Nuyorican Poets Cafe Slam, Rockland Poets Slam, and Poetic Affair Slam. In a full-circle moment, she now hosts the iconic Nuyorican Poets Cafe Poetry Slam, helping to shape the next generation of performance poets.
Beyond performance, JRose is a dedicated teaching artist and mentor, leading creative writing, playwriting, and performance workshops in schools, universities, and libraries. Her most impactful work takes place at Rikers Island, where she works with incarcerated youth and women, using writing as a tool for healing, self-reflection, and empowerment. In 2025, she expanded her reach internationally through a teaching artist residency in San José, Costa Rica.
In 2024, JRose became the first poet signed to First Generation Rich, releasing her debut book and spoken word album Pieces of My Crumbled Thoughts, submitted for Grammy consideration.
Through performance, education, and mentorship, JRose continues her mission to inspire others to reclaim their power, tell their stories, and always #KeepGrowing

I’m still taking in everything that happened on Saturday through these beautiful photos by Expressions by MowZus, and before anything else, THANK YOU. ❤️

When Marc Polite and I began planning this inaugural event, our mission was to create a free, welcoming celebration of books, literacy, storytelling, and diverse literary voices. A space where authors, readers, families, educators, artists, and community members could come together and see themselves reflected in literature.

And Jersey City showed up! 📚❤️

With 20+ vendors, featured poets, two incredible panels, Story Hour, children’s activities, face painting, community partners, volunteers, and so many attendees, the Bethune Center was filled with books, conversation, creativity, and community.
A huge thank you to our panelists and featured performers:
✨ Adult Panelists: @drsarahlwebb, @meghasworld16, @savagewriter973, @cyngracesylvie & @earthatone

✨ Children’s Panel: Emmelyn Deline, Deborah Oriol, Christy Limbach & Disha Mathur

✨ Featured Poets: Simple N’ Clean (SNC), Ameerah Shabazz, & James C. Ellerbe

Thank you to Ms. Sheena of the West Bergen Branch for bringing Story Hour to our youngest readers, and to the Bethune Center for being our home.

Thank you to @_jcedc & @jerseycityrecreation for your generous swag bags donations.

Greatly appreciate our supporters Office of Cultural Affairs, Shine A Light, JCAC & the Jersey City Arts & Culture Trust Fund, our partners West Bergen Branch Library & The Common Earth Company, and @rotaryjerseycity for your generous donation.

Thank you @bethunecenter for the space & @jc_artandstudiotour for the support.

To every volunteer, thank you for helping with setup, vendors, guests, breakdown, and everything in between!

🎥 Thank you to JPI Films for documenting the day. We can’t wait to see what you captured!
And thank you to everyone who shared, attended, supported our authors and poets, brought your children, purchased books, or simply told a friend.

And, thank you to my co-founder, Marc Polite.
This was our first Jersey City Book Fair, but it is only the beginning. I’m so grateful you all helped bring this vision to life. ❤️📚
