There comes a time when you are at a crossroads and you need to decide what brings meaning and fulfillment into your life. Do you want to take the path less traveled? Go towards what makes you the most afraid of failure? Leave it all out there knowing you tried your best every step of the way?

I thought about this for quite a while and came to the conclusion that in this one life I had, I would deeply regret not betting on myself by starting my own biotech and pharma consulting practice and working towards my dream of becoming a medical doctor.

I accepted I may encounter challenges and roadblocks on the way, but I knew I still needed to try even with the possibility of failure to master my fears of failure. Because what if I succeeded? How far could I go to help those who needed it most?

So I quietly focused on building these dreams the past few years and am finally excitedly sharing that I took the MCAT and got into med school! I'm so grateful to my friends and family who supported me as fully committed to making my dreams happen. I couldn't have done it without you 🥰

I cannot imagine how to begin sharing this news because of how happy and proud it makes me feel. It had been 10+ years since I had taken chemistry, organic chemistry and physics in undergrad so I had to learn those subject matter again.

The MCAT exam itself was 7.5 hours and covered those topics plus biology, biochemistry, psychology, sociology and critical reading and analysis of law, history, philosophy, art, etc. It was a beast and I chose to retake it because I knew I had the potential to execute better.

If your plan covers a medicine your doctor prescribes, you should get it for $0 out-of-pocket costs. That’s how insurance is supposed to work.

We all pay premiums so no one is priced out at the pharmacy. No one fakes cancer to get free chemo or pretends to have diabetes to pick up insulin. So cost-sharing at the pharmacy isn’t the way to go.

Insurance should fully cover medicines included in the plans so it’s $0 at the pharmacy for us.

Premiums could grant amenities like faster access, concierge services and nicer hospital rooms, but not the medicine itself.

We can afford this if we fix the middlemen and pass PBM rebates and insurer/employer discounts through to patients instead.

Keep market rewards while a drug is under patent, then require competition and steep price drops after patents expire. That’s how you get both new cures and inexpensive generics.

That’s the Biotech Social Contract: zero OOP for covered meds now, with strong incentives to invent new drugs to save lives, and low prices + broader access after patent expiration. What do you think?

Hi everyone! My name is Linda and I was born and raised in Massachusetts and trained as a scientist in the epicenter of biotech. Fifteen percent of the U.S. drug pipeline starts here, so it’s heartbreaking to hear our own senators lead price control efforts that throttle innovation that saves lives and push investment abroad. That’s the Massachusetts Paradox.

Instead of throttling the system that creates jobs and cures lives of patients, we should address the root causes and cap out-of-pocket costs, cut out the middlemen, and align insurance with patient needs.

The MA-rketing Coalition is storytelling. We show voters who we are, what’s at stake, and why market-based innovation keeps America ahead of China so we can secure the next generation of medicines, jobs, and global leadership instead of handing them away by default.

I recently had the privilege of attending the US Biotech and Pharma Summit hosted by the @financialtimeslive and @endpointsnews (thank you for having me!). Industry leaders discussed pivotal topics and trends, especially in light of the upcoming election. The morning keynote was delivered by Chris Viehbacher, who has been the CEO of Biogen for ~1.5 years. As someone who did her postdoctoral training in medical affairs and external innovation at Biogen during Michel Vounatsos’ tenure as CEO, it was a great opportunity to hear from new leadership at the Summit.

Chris Viehbacher shared insights into the company’s strategic direction and the challenges it faces in navigating the complex biotech and pharma landscape. Viehbacher’s vision for Biogen involves striking a delicate balance between risk-taking and financial sustainability, ensuring the company remains a leader in scientific innovation while delivering value to shareholders.
