Saturday 5th September 2026: the early training with coach Walu has just ended. As a beginner who has started to train at Boxwerk, I am impressed by his ability to teach the art of boxing with calm and patience.

I met him again, about one hour later, for an interview. Walu explains to me that his main work is dedicated to helping professional boxers to shape and improve their qualities, in order to bring them to the highest championships. Walu has vast experience in boxing as well as in psychology, which he acquired during his past work in the Ugandan army. According to Walu, the discipline to reach a high level is everything. Calm and self-determination are also extremely important.

As a photographer, I am very touched by his soulful eyes and his earnestness. After working together, I photographed him supervising a group of young boxers during a sparring session. The morning ended with a group portrait.

I hope to photograph Walu soon with my 8x10" camera.

I first met Sasha at the very beginning of my documentary on Boxing Girls. She was the opponent of the boxer I was following, and I was immediately impressed by her determination at such a young age.
I then had the chance to follow her and meet her at several bouts, including at her home club in Amay.
A few days ago, Sasha decided to give up boxing. Of course, we don’t have to comment on her decision. It takes courage to make such a decision, knowing everything that is at stake.
This makes me think that my documentary — if you still doubted it — isn’t about boxing. It is about the girls.
Photography allows me to meet people like Sasha, her parents, her coach and her friends. The work grows through these encounters.

- 𝐁𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐤𝐟𝐚𝐬𝐭 𝐖𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐯𝐲𝐰𝐞𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬. - Since 1946, @regencycafeuk has served the everyday rhythm of London, tea poured, plates called and tables filled. But beyond the counter, boxing history watches from the walls.

Ali standing over Liston. Rocky Marciano. Tyson and Spinks. Fighters and fights that once stopped the world, now framed above breakfasts and cups of tea.

It is not a boxing museum. It is a working café where the sport has quietly become part of the furniture, where ordinary life continues beneath extraordinary history.

Customers come and go. - The fighters remain.

Regency Café, Westminster, London.

At a boxing gala, from my ongoing documentary on boxing girls.

This picture is part of a selection drawn from several long-term documentary series on adolescence. The images were made over the years and curated for an exhibition focused on hair and body hair as social and intimate markers.
In these photographs, hair is shown as something handled, adjusted, and worn in movement and in stillness. More information about the exhibition soon.
