POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Played with the camera a bit last night after work and took photos of the house and dogs.

Our tree is always one of the last trees to change colour in the fall! I'm somewhat patiently waiting.

Anyway, I hope that you're having as nice of weather as we've been having and are enjoying a bit of outside time. Have an excellent Thursday.

The difference is in the details and we are falling for autumn in our modern cottage. Dare to reimagine the possibilities for your home. The transformation doesn’t need to be as extensive as this one or happen over night. This has been a 7 year project for us and we’re still not done. It’s true that small steps in the right direction compound over time. You may not know exactly how it will end up but start anyway. And don’t worry about if someone else will buy it (unless, of course, you have definite plans to sell in the very near future). Let’s normalize freely creating the home we want while we are living in it. #exteriorrenovation #thequietpowerofcreativity #moderncottage #falldecor #firepit @scrl

Here’s a little update on latest our landscaping efforts. Since ‘Fall is for planting’ and our flower beds were mostly just dust after a spring and summer undergoing massive renovations to the exterior of our home, we have started to rebuild the flower beds. You would not believe the amount of roots we had to remove to make way for the new plants 🙃 I couldn’t resist these ‘Autumn Ferns’ and the way they play off the cedar shutters! 🍂 and I love the way they flutter in the breeze. We’ve also added some hostas, a little limelight, and some English laurels. This will give us a good foundation until we can add more layers in the spring. We also added a soaker house underneath the mulch - highly recommend because I tried using a watering can for a couple of days and it did not even penetrate the surface of the soil. All the plants seem happy now that they are getting the appropriate amount of water and they have a protective layer of mulch. Have you been busy planting this fall? What are some of your favorites? @elizabethaspireshome #exteriorrenovation #thequietpowerofcreativity #ranchrenovation #moderncottage #cottagesandbungalows

My 10 favourite design moments from the Alderwood project 🏡✨

Some of these took months of convincing (myself, the trades, everyone) — but they’re the details that make this house feel like a story, not just a reno.

1️⃣ Exterior colour combo — Noble Grey + Egyptian Rose 🩶🌸
2️⃣ Using tile to create a “floor mat” at the entry
3️⃣ Celebrating the year the home was built with a penny tile inlay 🪙
4️⃣ The gallery wall holding every precious keepsake from my whole life 🖼️
5️⃣ Finding the beautiful original beams hiding under stucco ceilings
6️⃣ Keeping those beams exposed instead of covering them back up
7️⃣ Bunk room tucked into a low-sloped attic ceiling — cozy AND clever 🛏️
8️ The rattan radiator cover that turned an eyesore into a feature
9️⃣ A super plush runner that silenced every footstep on the stairs
🔟 Rough hemlock planter boxes doing double duty as a rail guard 🌿

Which one’s your favourite?? Tell me below 👇

Talking about how your house number is not a detail to overlook.

House numbers might be the status quo, but you can always spell out your address for an unexpected edge. When written in an ultra-sleek sans serif font, like the one designer Nureed Saeed used here, your home’s exterior will ooze midcentury modern vibes. “The actual style name of these house letters by Modern House Numbers is called Palm Springs,” the Berkeley, California designer says, which cements the home’s design style. “By spelling out the number as a word instead of applying it as a simple number, we added to the modern style of the home while also giving the large white space above the garage some much-needed balance.”
