SOURA 7 | EDITION RECAP

Three days of queer cinema, powerful stories, and a community that continues to show up.

Seven years after Soura began, our commitment remains the same: to create a space for stories that resist erasure, celebrate our communities, and remind us why queer cinema matters.

As we reflected during our opening night, these spaces are more important now than ever.

Thank you to everyone who made this edition possible and to those who continue to stand with us.

Our stories are still here. And for as long as we can, we will keep making space for them.

شكراً من القلب ❤️

We can’t wait to see you next year!

So grateful for the first Queer Cinema Sunday event!
We had a full house in our self-organized cinema, and we received feedbacks from many of you that the programme of films left you inspired and empowered to create as well, that felt very special!
Thanks to sliding scale donations for entrance, drinks sale and to your enthusiasm for cakes and Manaqeesh, we were able to gather enough money to pay 50€ screening fee to each of the 7 filmmakers ❤️‍🔥

We would love to hear from you! Your feedbacks on the event, your wild dreams and crazy ideas for future screenings?

+ Stay tuned for the launch of our open call for films very soon!

👽 Strange, amusing, dark, luminous, provocative, divine, hellish—in a word, queer as fuck! Coming from below, from above, from another underground or celestial world, from another time—past, present, and future—the Time Traveler, the Queen of Anger, and Madame Collapse graced us with one or more surprise visits throughout the festival. Slay! 🧚🏽

SOURA 7 | DAY 3 HIGHLIGHTS

The final day of the festival brought new screenings of shorts, our closing feature film, Q&As with featured filmmakers, and our closing award ceremony to honor the festival winners.

We’re grateful to have closed out our seventh edition with a renewed sense of hope and connection to filmmakers and artists in the SWANA region and look forward to keeping the festival tradition alive and strong as we head into this new chapter.

Thank you to our wonderful team, our jury, and of course – our beautiful audience who continues to support Soura each year.

We would like to thank our partners:

🧰✨️ It's time for the audition! During their performance, @novadespov interacts with the audience for a job interview that’s highly unusual—but still less absurd than the last job interview you had for a startup selling hot air.

🎭Le Lampenfieber isn’t just about theatre. As always, workshops, meet-ups and parties are organised throughout the week.

✨️The "Oxygènes" Workshop will be led by Oxybabe, whom you may already have met if you came to see “Report on My Past Life as a Black Woman” on Wednesday evening.

🎟If not, you can see her on Sunday at 6 pm for the show’s reprise...
...Yes, that’s an excellent idea, actually, and the perfect way to spend your Sunday: a workshop at 2 pm and a performance at 6 pm! See you at @ballhausost
