• THE SEA IS A BLACK BODY • 🌊

Dance as a way of summoning.
Dance as a way to remember.
Movement as a vessel a tool of healing,
a tool of processing.

The ocean, this black body, holds stories too vast for language.
With the 30 dancers at @ecoledessables , we shaped a ritual —
born from the desire to make an offering, building for us an humble future memory 🖤

Thank you to the bests musicians 🫶🏾

• THE SEA IS BLACK BODY •
The sea
this black body
that swallows light,
keeps silence,
remembers everything.

What if,
for just a moment,
it gave them back
all the Black bodies it holds
beneath its endless skin?

Not as sorrow,
but as light.

Rising
with salt on their lashes,
and stories in their bones,
breathing songs
no history could silence.

Arms reaching
not for justice,
but for each other.

The sea,
a stage of return.
Their bodies,
a dance of memory.

And the world,
if it dared to listen,
would witness
the beauty
of what was never meant
to disappear.

Part of my Research workshop developing ideas around the topic of « The black imaginary » , this year’s theme for the African diaspora program at @ecoledessables Senegal.

Thank you to my beautiful dancers for daring to jump right into the unknown of this unexpected freshly new started process. After visiting for the first time the gorée island, I was left with no words.
I felt the need to express how I felt through the collective and the bodies, as a way of catharsis.

I’m grateful for the conversations, the listening, the questions shared over the span of those past two weeks. Thank you to Wesley Ruzibiza & @alesandraseutin_mamavo for inviting me to join this beautiful and important space created for dance artists from the African diaspora.

« The sea this black body»
We shall see where this will take us
