You got the settlement check. 💰
You signed the confidentiality agreement. 🤐

But what happens when the information gets out — and you weren’t the one who posted it? 👀

Does it matter who hit “share”? Or does the responsibility come back to the person who signed the agreement?

And the bigger question: Could one conversation with a family member cost you your settlement?

What do you think — can the employer make you give the money back?

Drop your answer below.

Answer coming in Part 2 of Mo, Is That Legal?

I know this is outside of what I normally post here.

But with less than 30 days until Election Day, I’m making a conscious decision not to sit on the sidelines.

Leadership matters. Accountability matters. Judgment matters. And when we are deciding who should hold public office, I believe we should be willing to look closely at the decisions people have made when they were entrusted with power.

That’s why I’m reposting this reel about the Hope Florida controversy.

You can watch it, read more, ask questions, and come to your own conclusions. That’s what voting is supposed to be about.

My platform may usually focus on workplaces and employment law, but my voice doesn’t stop there. The stakes of this election are too significant for me to disengage simply because politics isn’t my usual content.

So for the next few weeks, you may hear a little more from me about what’s happening beyond the workplace.

Not to tell you how to vote.

To encourage you to pay attention.

To ask questions.

To demand accountability.

And then — vote accordingly based on what matters to you.

🗳️ Less than 30 days. Pay attention. Ask questions. Vote.

Imagine doing your job for YEARS with no performance issues…then finding out you're being fired because your boss's wife thinks you're a threat to their marriage. 😳

No misconduct. No policy violation. Just…you gotta go.

So what do you think?

🐍🧡💚 Happy Birthday, FAMU — Part 2.

Now let’s talk about the $1.97 BILLION.

In 2023, the federal government estimated that if FAMU had received the same state funding per student as Florida’s 1862 land-grant institution from 1987–2020, FAMU would have received approximately $1.97 billion more.

Sit with that number.

Because this conversation isn’t just about what FAMU accomplished despite historic underfunding.

It’s also about what FAMU could become with equitable investment.

And now, as Florida’s 2026 gubernatorial race brings renewed discussion about FAMU, funding, and flagship status, I think there’s a bigger question worth asking:

What would it look like for the State of Florida to invest in FAMU at the level of the institution it has already proven itself to be?

That feels like a conversation worth having on her 139th birthday.

Happy Birthday, FAMU. 🐍🧡💚
May the next chapter be even greater than the last.

🐍🧡💚 Happy Birthday, FAMU!

On October 3, 1887, Florida A&M opened its doors with just 15 students and two instructors. Nearly 140 years later, its story is one of excellence, resilience—and a complicated history of how America funded its historically Black land-grant institutions.

So I’m telling this story in two parts.

PART 1: How We Got Here
We’re going back to the beginning: the Morrill Acts, why FAMU was created, what it means to be a land-grant institution, and the promise of equitable support that came with that designation.

PART 2: The $1.97 Billion Question
Then we talk about the money. In 2023, the federal government estimated that FAMU would have received approximately $1.97 BILLION more in state funding from 1987–2020 if its per-student funding had matched Florida’s 1862 land-grant institution.

And we bring the conversation into 2026, when FAMU’s status—and whether it should be recognized and funded as one of Florida’s flagship universities—has become part of the gubernatorial conversation.

Because on FAMU’s birthday, I don’t just want to celebrate where she’s been.

I want us to talk about what FAMU could become if Florida invested in her accordingly.

Happy Birthday to the highest of seven hills. 🐍🧡💚

Some TV shows entertain you. Some quietly expand what you believe is possible for your life.

A Different World did that for me. 🧡💚

Long before social media gave us a window into everybody else's college experience, Hillman gave millions of us a weekly glimpse of Black students learning, loving, debating, struggling, growing and dreaming BIG.

And for this future Rattler, that mattered. 🐍

HBCUs have never needed permission to be excellent. Their graduates have been changing communities, industries, this country and the world for generations.

So I'm excited to see Hillman open its doors again—not simply for the nostalgia, but for the young person watching who might see something that makes them think:

Maybe that's where I belong.

Because representation can become inspiration.
And inspiration can change the trajectory of a life.

Welcome back, Hillman. We've been waiting. ❤️

Some workplace lessons take years to unlearn.

Early in my career, I thought surviving a difficult environment was proof that I was tough enough to succeed. So I adapted. I pushed through. And I accepted things I wouldn't accept today.

Experience taught me something different: being able to endure dysfunction doesn't make the dysfunction acceptable.

And employers should understand this too. Your best employees may not complain forever. They may simply reach the point where protecting their peace matters more than staying.

And when they leave, you don't just lose an employee. You lose everything they brought to the table.

Have you ever looked back at something you experienced at work and thought, “I can't believe I thought that was normal”?

Part 1 of my series on workplace abuse.
