POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Cold mornings. Steam rising off the lake. Heavy chop. Sunset boat rides before freeze-up. 🌅🎣

If that’s your vibe… you’re in the right place.

The open-water clock is winding down fast across the North. There aren’t many launches left before the ice moves in, so get out there and soak it all in while the boat’s still wet.

And for everyone trading the rod for the rifle this week—stay safe in the bush, shoot straight, and happy hunting season. 🦌

Built for the grind.
Welcome to Back 40 Baits. 👊

Decades on Sheb. Still chasing the next big bag. 🏆🎣

Two weeks until the Shebandowan Smallmouth Showdown.

For Back 40 Baits, this tournament is part of our story.

We’ve spent years competing on this lake, and every windy point, rock pile, tough bite, and heavy weigh-in has taught us something. Those lessons show up in the lures we build.

This year’s biggest question? 🪰 The mayfly hatch.

When bass are keyed in on bugs, they can be tough to fool. But trophy smallmouth still have to eat—you just need the right trigger.

⚡ Our starting lineup:

🥶 Blue Freezie Jerkbait

Fast snaps. Long pauses.

That erratic side-to-side action, followed by a five-second dead-stick, can turn a follower into the fish that anchors your bag.

💥 Topwater Poppers

If the hatch gets thick, we’re looking up. A loud pop over deep reefs can pull fish that would otherwise stay glued to the bottom.

We’re proud to be official prize sponsors for the under 20 year old anglers class, and long-time competitors. This year’s prizes are packed with some of our favourite confidence baits—the same lures we trust when every bite matters.

To everyone putting in the pre-fish hours: good luck, fish hard, and enjoy one of the best bass tournaments Northwestern Ontario has to offer.

Competitors and fans—drop your pre-fish plans or favorite confidence bait in the comments. We’d love to hear what you’re trusting when it counts.

We’ll see you at the scales. 🏆

🍉🎣 WATERMELON FOR THE WIN! 🎣🍉

There’s a reason Watermelon has been a Great Lakes staple for decades… but our custom Back 40 Watermelon prototype just took things up a notch. 👀

@moosari found fish holding in 80 feet of water, but they weren’t exactly in a cooperative mood. After some experimenting, the winning move was dropping the balls to 15 feet off bottom and letting that deep-diving bill hunt just above the floor.

A few passes later, this Lake Superior silver couldn’t take it anymore. 💥🐟

Now the question is…

Should we do a limited run of these Watermelon jerkbaits? 🍉

Drop a 🍉 in the comments if you’d fish one, and if enough of you want them, we might just fire up the paint booth. 🎨🔥
