If you haven’t been to @mor_restaurant , you need to hurry over there asap to book in. I am completely and utterly obsessed.

The ambiance, the service, the food, the wine, the sommeliers, the view… It’s just out of this world.

Sometimes you just have to take a punt… 🌊

Monday’s conditions were about as bad as they could be for the start of the week.

Gale-force easterlies, swinging southeast, were pushing big swells right up Dartmouth Harbour.

Tuesday was looking like a complete write-off — never mind getting out to the scallop grounds, getting out of the harbour entrance was looking unlikely!

But the wind started to ease, and with Tuesday being the ONLY potential dive window for the next 10 days, I decided to head out on Monday evening and take a look at the actual conditions in Start Bay, including a view from Start Point.

The verdict? “Don’t go.” 😬

Tuesday morning came, and I thought I’d take a punt anyway.

The swell had swung northeast, leaving the harbour entrance manageable, but it was still rolling straight into the scallop grounds.

By the time I arrived, I’d pretty much decided to turn around and head home.

But then I thought… I’m here now. Might as well do a test dive.

24 dives later… and you got your scallops! ☺️🦪

All hand-picked, on a single breath, in conditions that really weren’t playing ball.

Just another day at the office! 🌊

It’s always rewarding to see a project explored in detail, so thank you to Design Insider for this lovely feature on MOR at Carbis Bay.

Working with Tom Sellers and his team, we wanted to create a restaurant that felt completely connected to its extraordinary Cornish setting, while bringing together Japanese restraint, British craftsmanship and a real sense of place.

From the warm ombré tones inspired by sand, sunlight and the changing Cornish skies, to the darker, more intimate bar and the sweeping fabric ceiling, every element was designed to give MOR its own distinct identity and to allow the space to evolve from day into night.

It was also incredibly important to us that the project celebrated craft, working with some brilliant makers and artists to create bespoke pieces throughout.

Thank you Design Insider for taking such a thoughtful look at the project – and to everyone who helped bring MOR to life.

M Y S O U T H W E S T F O O D I E bucket list for October. Because there are just too many good places to eat and drink and not enough days!

One of the tricky things about exploring the South West is that I come across SO many places I want to visit, and I simply can’t get to them all. So I thought it was time to start keeping a little monthly bucket list of the places I’m desperate to try.

Some have caught my eye on Instagram (the algorithm does occasionally get it right!), while others have been recommended by fellow foodies. And honestly, I love hearing your recommendations as much as I love discovering somewhere new.

From destination restaurants and independent pubs to artisan bakeries, brilliant coffee spots and hidden foodie gems, there’s a mix of price points here.

Because one of the things I love most about the South West is just how brilliant our food and drink scene is.

There are so many talented people doing lovely things, and so many independent businesses worth making a detour for.

If we haven’t met yet, I’m Tara, a Devon-born foodie explorer with a serious love of hunting out good places to eat, drink and be merry. I love supporting independents and sharing the places that make this part of the world so special. From Devon and Cornwall to Somerset and Dorset, there’s always somewhere new to discover!

Now, I’d love your help with this one.

Have you been to any of these places? Or is there somewhere else in the South West that you think I’d absolutely love?

I’m always up for a recommendation, whether it’s a bakery worth travelling for, a pub with a proper welcome, a brilliant neighbourhood restaurant or somewhere completely under the radar. Tell me your favourites in the comments. I’m always looking for an excuse to plan my next foodie adventure, and who knows, your recommendation might make next month’s list!

And if you know someone who loves discovering independent food spots as much as i do, feel free to share this with them. More recommendations, more places to explore and more good food. What’s not to love?
