Today I spent the day as a Lab Assistant at Moravian University, shadowing Dr. B. We had students rotate through stations in the ADL lab and the nursing simulation lab.

@moravianuniversity Sally Breidegam Miksiewicz Center for Health Sciences is a cutting edge simulation center featuring exam rooms, low- and high-fidelity simulation rooms, and an anatomy and dissection lab. This facility is designed to enhance learning and accessibility across various programs, not just nursing.

In this lab I learned:

👉 Hospital beds should have 3 rails at 1 time. 4 is a restraint and requires a doctor's order

👉 How to change soiled sheets

👉 How to use a hoyer lift, both portable and attached to the ceiling

👉 How to slide someone on their side and their back on a hospital bed

👉 What is Trendelenburg vs reverse Trendelenburg

Today Y1 OT students, Y1 SLP students, Y2 PT students and Senior Year Nursing students came together for some interprofessional work!🧑‍⚕️👩‍⚕️👨‍⚕️

Based on a mock case study, groups created and performed a skit - one skit showcasing effective interprofessional care✅ and the other as ineffective interprofessional care❌

Take a look at a few clips showing how big of a difference this can make!

2 degrees done. Took longer than I planned but I finally did it. I’m thankful to everyone who supported me through the years. Thank you Moravian for allowing me to be the first dual-degree undergrad in a grad program! Can’t wait to see where this program goes. My next adventure takes me to the MICU at St Luke’s Bethlehem. 🩺🎓

Last week, our Nursing, OT, and SLP students participated in an interprofessional simulation designed to mirror an inpatient rehabilitation setting after a stroke.

Together, they assessed and supported standardized patients, learning how each discipline plays a vital role in recovery. This hands-on experience strengthened their teamwork, communication, and confidence as future healthcare professionals.
