This is my second year curating literary sessions for Yatha Katha Film and Literature Festival. For my first day I had the amazing authors @nitisampat, @anukrti_u, and @meetishroffshah speak up about what it means to present work from a female perspective.

Then @princemanvendragohil and Zainab Patel spoke about the many lessons their decades of activism in the LGBTQI space have taught them alongside American podcaster @morellomunch

Finally @saranyalol walked us through her poetry crawl and the work she is doing to archive Mumbai writing. I joined her on the stage for an impromptu Q&A session.

If you are interested in our programming check us out at @yathakatha and join us tomorrow or Thursday for more of the panels I have taken the time to arrange 🙂

We’re organising the next Himalayan Commune Caravan with @thelostmonk @morellomunch

From 20–29 October, we’re taking a small group through Uttarakhand to spend time with people, farms and communities that have chosen very different ways of living.

We’ll be visiting and staying at regenerative farms, learning from people working with land, food, ecology and community, and visiting @navdanyaindofficial , founded by @vandanashivamovie , where we may also get the chance to meet her.

Along the way there’ll be conversations and workshops around regenerative farming, community living, Buddhism, spirituality, Himalayan culture and alternative ways of building a life.

And then

For the final part of the journey, we head into a 4 day Himalayan immersion, travelling deeper into the mountains and spending time around remote Himalayan communities that have lived there for generations.

Because Before we rush to build “new communities”, ecovillages and alternative systems, maybe we first need to learn from cultures that have already understood how to live with land, seasons, scarcity, relationships and each other for hundreds of years.

20–29 October 2026
Uttarakhand, Himalayas
Only 9 spots left.

We're pinching ourselves as we write this.

Two years ago, a bustling nomad village was a dream.
Today, we’re trying to fit the calendar into one carousel. 🥹

Retreats. Residencies. AI experiments. Creative rabbit holes. Strangers becoming a choir.

The part that gets us? These programs are led by the community. People who came to Jungli, found their people, and decided to bring more of them.

Want in? Or have a retreat of your own brewing?

Comment Programs and we’ll DM you the deets!

Eighteen months ago, a Vipassana retreat cracked something open. Eighteen months and thirty communities later, Chris Morello is building one of their own.

What Thirty Communes Taught Me About the World We're Building - Chris's own words, from a co-living house called Le Host that burned them out, to a fairy sanctuary where a parking attendant said "welcome home," to Twin Oaks (the oldest secular income-sharing community in the country, running on consensus since 1967), to Living Energy Farm's homemade solar microgrid, to a château collective in Burgundy, to a queer commune in Spain that funds itself running retreats.

The throughline: none of it happened on a master plan. Just one small trusted connection leading to the next.
"Move at the speed of trust."

Money cannot buy real community.

When access to a group is based purely on who has the cash to buy in, you end up with a collection of high earners instead of a thriving culture. Co-ownership based on contribution creates a level of pride, responsibility, and dynamic energy that pure capital can never replicate.

• Pay-to-play structures dilute true shared values.
• Distributed ownership fosters real accountability and pride.
• Active contribution builds stronger bonds than financial investment.

True freedom starts with energy sovereignty.

Most people think off-grid living requires massive, expensive battery setups. Places like Living Energy Farms prove you can build complete energy independence using direct DC microgrids, passive solar heating, and straw bale insulation without standard electrical grids.

• Energy sovereignty protects you from rising utility costs.
• Passive thermal heating and direct DC power cut massive overhead.
• True sustainability is about simple, practical engineering.

Most people work jobs they hate to buy things they do not need.

The modern 9 to 5 trap is fueled by the endless race to keep up with status and social expectations. When you secure basic needs like housing and food through alternative systems like land trusts, you remove the financial pressure that keeps you stuck.

Freedom is not just about money; it is about reclaiming your time to contribute to things that actually matter.

• Buying status keeps people trapped in expensive lifestyles.
• Land trusts provide real housing security and peace of mind.
• Reclaiming your time allows you to live with true purpose.

We traded our ancestral connection for modern isolation.

For generations, survival meant understanding nature, community, and the natural cycles that kept us alive. Then came the Industrial Revolution, and with it, a systematic shift that taught us to see ourselves as completely separate from the earth and each other.

We didn't just lose our connection to nature; we lost our village.

• Modern society conditions us to prioritize output over human connection.
• Disconnection from natural cycles breeds modern loneliness.
• Reclaiming our ancestral roots starts with intentional community.

We were conditioned to follow orders, not build freedom.

The standard education system teaches us from a young age to sit still, obey authority, and stay completely silent about building real wealth. We leave school equipped to join a workforce, but entirely blind to financial independence.

• Traditional education prioritizes compliance over self-reliance.
• Financial literacy is intentionally left out of standard curriculum.
• Unlearning societal conditioning is the first step toward true independence.
