I am pleased to announce that I will be with my @aurwayart family protraying the role of the Patriarch of the family Papa Joe in the Stage Reading of the New Musical Coming Home: A Family Musical written and composed by @that_musicman

We are excited to annouce that we’ve been accepted into Emerging Artists Theatre’s Spark Theatre Festival NYC!

We’re stepping into the world of Lawrence Dandridge’s original, Coming Home.

A family reunites for the first time in years, and nothing is the same as they remembered. Through music rooted in cookout classics and honest, unflinching dialogue, Coming Home digs into the traditions, tensions, and unconditional love that hold Black families together.

“Through the Fire” hits differently these days.

Because lately, I’ve been learning what it really means to walk through the fire—not around it, not untouched by it, but straight through it… and still find a reason to sing.

Rising from the heat like a phoenix.
A little scorched. A little wiser.
But still here. Still singing. Still dancing. Still becoming. 🔥

Yesterday, Nicole and I sang these words back and forth to each other, and somewhere between her voice and mine, the song became more than a song. It became a reminder:

I am making it through.

Thank you to my Sisters, who surround me with nothing but LOVE—all the time, in all the ways. The kind of love that holds you up when your own legs get tired. The kind that reminds you who you are when life gets loud.

And thank you to the South Ward for reminding this North Ward girl—who now calls the Central Ward home—that I can still come down South and BOOGIE. 😂💃🏽

Newark raised me in more ways than one. Every ward carries its own rhythm, its own stories, its own fire… and somehow, wherever I land in this city, there is always music waiting for me.

Grateful for yesterday’s Art X Change, hosted by Clinton Hill Community Action and NJPAC & Our Poet Laureate Mia X :) for transforming an abandoned gas station for community, art, sisterhood, joy, and moments like this.

Through the fire we go.
