After 15 years in the coxing seat, I have decided that this summer will be my last racing season. To me, retirement doesn’t feel like the right word, because how do you close the door on something that has shaped so much of who you are?

Rowing has given me a life beyond anything I could have imagined… incredible friendships, extraordinary experiences and a front-row seat to what people are capable of when they commit wholeheartedly to something greater than themselves.

When I think about what I have achieved, it still feels surreal. But one of the greatest gifts of being a cox is that success is never yours alone. Multiple Paralympic, World, European and British Titles shared with dozens of friends, all enabled through the support of my husband, family and loved ones. Pulling on a Great Britain vest was always an immense honour, but so too was representing Pembroke, Oxford and Leander. Every crew I’ve been a part of has shaped the person I am today.

Choosing to step away has been incredibly difficult, because I still love the sport and feel at the top of my game.

However, the last few years have changed me. Cancer, recovery and fertility treatment have given me a different perspective on success, purpose and what matters most. They’ve shown me the power of using my voice and standing up for things that matter. It’s why now feels like the right time to turn the page. To create space for new challenges, champion causes I care deeply about, elevate women and girls, and use my experiences to help others.

The truth is, I will never leave this beautiful, ridiculous sport behind. Between my work with WOX, supporting the next generation of coxes, and the fact that I can never turn a race down, rowing will always in my life.

Ultimately, I feel grateful. Grateful that the sport I stumbled into at uni gave me a life richer, bigger and more meaningful than I could have imagined.

There is so much more to say, and SO many people to thank, but… I have one more campaign to complete.

If you’re going to choose a place to bring the curtain down, there aren’t many bigger stages than Henley Royal Regatta.

Thank you all for being on this incredible journey with me.

❤️
