Celebrating the very talented @morganwilliamsb at the presentation of her Siemens Prize for composition 🏆

Flying the flag with colleagues from @rncmlive, where Bethan studied, and @riotensemble who have played her pieces.

Great to catch up with her Dad Ian too, for whom I worked at @lancing_college.

Many thanks to @evs_musikstiftung for a wonderful evening, and congratulations to all the winners!

Did you know, at YYM you can study composition as your primary or secondary study specialism?

Our composition tutor Bethan Morgan-Williams (@morganwilliamsb)is an award-winning, internationally-recognised composer, and loves to share her skills and knowledge with our students, and recent YYM Composition graduates have gone on to study composition at such institutions as the Royal Academy of Music and Royal Birmingham Conservatoire.

If you know a young composer looking to take their skills to the next level, we’d love to hear from them!

We were delighted to receive the news last week that our wonderful Leeds composition teacher, Bethan Morgan-Williams, is the 2026 recipient of the prestigious Ernst von Siemens Composer Prize, awarded in recognition of her exceptional body of compositional work.

Bethan’s work explores how systems and intuition interact to generate musical material. Her music plays with expectation and variance, reflecting the restless energy of 21st-century life.

Her works have been commissioned and performed by many internationally acclaimed soloists and ensembles, and her music has performed by orchestras including the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra and the London symphony orchestra, amongst others.

Congratulations Bethan on this incredible achievement!

Congratulations to Bethan Morgan-Williams! She is one of the recipients of the 2026 Composer Prizes.
Born in Wales, Bethan Morgan-Williams studied with Diderik Wagenaar at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague and with Gary Carpenter at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester. She has collaborated with the London Symphony Orchestra, Ensemble Musikfabrik, the Birmingham Contemporary Music Group, and violist Antoine Tamestit. Based in Wales, Morgan-Williams draws on the contrast between rural calm and urban intensity in her music, which features layered textures and complex rhythms, guiding listeners through carefully structured, multifaceted works.
The other two Composer Prizes go to Hovik Sardaryan and Kitty Xiao.
Are you interested in attending the prize ceremony? Then send us an email to preisverleihung@evs-musikstiftung.ch
