It's the first day of Fall, and Layoff season is over.

On Nov. 2 I will start a new job at the Wall Street Journal as an audience strategist for investigative and enterprise coverage.

You really never know where life will take you, and I never expected to live in New York, but Lily and I are preparing for this new adventure and will make the most of it. If you're there, let's get together! If you're in D.C., look for a ✌ party invite soon.

I'm grateful to everyone who has shown up this year — in texts, at my doorstep, for coffees, to share a meal, to look after Lily, in support and in solidarity.

It's been a really tough time since February 4th. What happened at The Post will be devastating to me for a long time. Some days I felt glad to have a break from the relentless news cycle, other days I questioned whether I would ever be able to work in a newsroom again, or if I should even want to do that. But that was the fear and anxiety talking. If you know me, a newsroom is where I want to be.

To those still looking for jobs, don't give up. The right thing will come along, maybe in a way you least expect. ❤️

In 2025 the 100 Heads Society had our biggest year yet. We put on 2 Portrait Shows featuring work from artists who participated in our weekly portrait nights. @ruthfittonportraits & @kailunqu graced us with 2 fantastic demos. Three of our artists reached 100 Heads and joined the Centurion Society.
@claralfreitas wrote an article on us in the Baltimore Banner sharing our society with the city.
25 classes were taught in our studio by @lauren.carloart .
We started a livestream to participate in portrait nights from home!
We marched in the Mayor's Christmas parade!
Here's the deal... We're shooting for an even bigger year in 2026!
We hear you when you say the studio is too cramped. We hear you asking for more classes. We hear you asking for another portrait night (but during the day!). We hear you when our lighting setup blocks your view of the model. And we want to solve all these issues, but we need a little help.
At our current portrait night price we are simply covering our costs for rent. We want to find a balance where we maintain a welcoming atmosphere and price point for everyone while continuing to grow and allowing the organizers to dedicate their time to the society without it being a financial burden.
So to accomplish this we have made the decision to raise the price for portrait nights to $10.
With this increase we will be able to accomplish a bucket list of items we have had on the back burner to improve the society including...
New Chairs for the Studio, 4+ Visiting Artists Workshops/Demos, More Classes, A Raised Platform for models, Provide Easels for Everyone, More monthly newsletters
And a super special announcement...
We're moving!
We realized one of our biggest hurdles in 2025 was the space we had in our current studio. And after searching high and low we found a space that is right next door!
This new studio will allow us to more comfortably seat artists during portrait nights, spread out during classes, and much more!
Our next few portrait nights will be in our current studio and tickets for those are available on our website now!
We will update when the new studio is ready so stay tuned and have a Happy New Year!
