As you all know, Hawaiʻi has faced back-to-back climate disasters in recent years—from the 2023 Lahaina fires to Kona low floods to consecutive major hurricanes. So seeing young people from our small island homes show up in massive places like New York Climate Week, despite all the devastation, brings a unique kind of perspective. They are protecting the places that raised them, demanding accountability, and proving that small islands hold powerful solutions. They are saying their voices matter and that their future is worth fighting for. 🌺🌊

I’ve been so excited to celebrate my 37th all week …Then I realized I already did that last year. This year has been wonderful, hard, fun, funny, exhausting, blessed, full of adventure, full of growing pains, made new friends, wished I had more time with old ones, made a bunch of mistakes, matured in ways I didn’t expect, …more than anything this year has reminded me to be extremely grateful for the life I’ve been given. I’m so thankful for every laugh, tear, and everything in between. Excited to take on 38. (Wish I could share every special moment from this year; here are a few caught on my camera roll)

No matter what background you come from, you deserve the right to tell your own story. That's why my experience this weekend attending both the @pifilmfestnyc gala in NYC and @urbanfest360 in Orlando felt so profound. There's no individual solution to getting the resources underrepresented filmmakers need to tell their stories. @film4goodfund knows that we need all these organizations, festivals, and partners to support authentic storytelling — an ecosystem. In specific, niche culturally-relevant narrative film, we see the universal — experiences we can all relate to and appreciate. We also see stories that can change hearts and minds at scale. There's a need for Pacific Islander film festivals that bring global audiences to celebrate great storytelling. There's a need for Black film festivals that do the same (in many locations and many iterations). There's room for all of it — the economic empowerment, the support of local businesses, the elevation of different cultures, and career advancement opportunities. And we, the audience, benefit from having so many chances to engage. As I reflect on this weekend, I feel gratitude for the organizers, volunteers, and sponsors that bring these events to life and build these platforms for storytellers.  When connecting with leaders looking to build solutions and create lasting impact at the @clintonglobal this week, underrepresented filmmakers and storytellers will be at the forefront for me. 🙏🏾 #CGI2026
