Only two days left to see Expressive Roots at @mossgalleries!

Don't miss your chance to explore Neuman's dalliances with pure abstraction, explosive, universe-spanning compositions, moments of obsession with gesture and texture, and watch as his myriad fascinations coalesce in his confronting and masterfully composed late-career works.

🥳 Happy Birthday to Robert S. Neuman on what would have been his 100th!

He may have left us 11 years ago but through his art, he is still with us today. We'll be at @mossgalleries in Falmouth, ME tonight to celebrate this special day and the retrospective of his works Expressive Roots. We hope we'll see you there!

“Robert S. Neuman: Expressive Roots,” on view through Oct. 17 at Elizabeth @mossgalleries, 251 Route One, #FalmouthME, “helps us contextualize the transformations in Neuman’s six-decades of work,” writes @HeatherStivison in our latest issue. “His art was continually in conversation with other artists of the time — often in disagreement, but always with an awareness of what was happening in the art world and always influenced by the world around him.”

“Often described as a Figurative #AbstractExpressionist, Neuman was a thematic painter, who developed some 16 distinct bodies of work over the course of his career. Rather than focusing on one series, the exhibition presents a sampling of 13 works completed between 1951 and 2009.”

Read more of Stivison’s feature on @robertsneuman’s work at Elizabeth Moss Galleries as well as in the “Currents: Art Since 1900” exhibition at the Bowdoin College Museum of Art (@bowdoinmuseum) and, beginning on Oct. 1, as part of the “Rooted and Rising: Introducing the Permanent Collection” show at @batesmuseumofart, in the September/October 2026 issue of @ArtscopeMagazine, now available at partnering art centers, galleries and museums throughout New England and available for digital purchase at artscopemagazine.com/subscribe.

🥂 This Wednesday, join us at @mossgalleries in Falmouth, Maine from 5:30pm-7:30pm to raise a glass to Expressive Roots and Neuman's 100th birthday.

During the reception, we invite you to join a casual chat with some very special guests including Kim S. Theriault, Professor of Art at University of Southern Maine.

Vicki Lucey will guide the conversation on behalf of Moss Galleries.

Sunne Savage Neuman, wife of the artist, and Christina Godfrey, the artist's daughter, will share their insight into Neuman's life and work as the force's behind his estate.

The conversation will focus on Neuman's earliest explorations of abstract expressionism and how the movement influenced his prolific body of work.

The conversation will begin at 6:15 and last about a half an hour. We hope you'll join us!

Lovely to be included among @covestreetarts @mossgalleries and @caldbeckgallery in today’s PPH article by Chloe Swedberg (@chloereporting) - I’ll add a thought about these “uncertain times” - WE NEED ARTISTS more than ever during times like this (political upheaval, unsafe governments, inhumanity and mistreatment occurring daily). Yes I have a business to run - but more importantly, I hope to be making a contribution in support of art, artists & communities. Thank you Chloe!
