Dear Shruti,

"Life mein sabse bada risk hota hain, koi risk na lena".
Had it been told to you by someone else earlier and you didn't have to realize it on your own, you would not have to leave that boy in the bicycle you stumbled upon and fell for in a beautiful Darjeeling morning. We are always taught to give an edge to the society above anything. And that's why, the cloud of reluctance, the societal fear was aways hanging every time you were with Barfi, even though you were happy. This fear worked passively and made you come back in his pole experiment and leave his hand.

And when everything you chose failed you, you saw Barfi again, but now with all his care and craziness for Jhilmil. There was repentance, a will to reverse everything, to remove Jhilmil not just from photos, to be there at her place. But this time, Barfi had moved on.

Still, above all, you did get a chance. To undo everything, to get your happiness back, to be with Barfi forever. You just had to ignore a call from the window of the orphanage. The cloud of norms and rules had gone away by then; you had left your family behind. But did the wave of your love for Barfi and his happiness recede? You could see how broken he was, almost losing Jhilmil. That wave was strong enough to make you selfless. Maybe it would have been worse if you didn't stop and looked back. You just helped two people to be happy.

Yes, you may believe that love means living with someone for the whole life and dying together like your grandparents and Barfi and Jhilmil. But it also means letting it go. And you did it, not this time due to someone's pressure, but just because you loved him. You chose the meaning which suits you the best; every love story has a catalyst, and you did your part.

With love,
From one dwindling between 'risks'.

Nine years old Neera is crazy for books and she borrows them from me often as can't afford many. That day, when the fire was caught at her home, her mother started wailing because Neera was still inside. But she came rushing a moment later caressing my book. The book I had asked her to be extra careful with when I gave it to her as it was my most favorite. Her fingers were a little burnt.

09.09.2020.

Another gem drops out of the studio of Anurag Saikia, as a part of the soundtrack to one of the most criticised Bollywood movies of 2020. 'Ek Tukda Dhoop' touches a numb issue and flashes on it so vehemently that every other person wakes up from a long, deep slumber.

Respect is one wheel to the ride of life. And the ride is bound to stumble if the wheel doesn’t work properly. This one song single-handedly brings together the elements portrayed in the movie.

Amrita or Amu is a person who kept herself busy in taking care of her husband and family but ends up receiving a slap, not just physically, but also on her belief that they valued her worth. A sorry did not burp out of anyone.

Once something is broken, it’s very difficult to mend it without a scar. It takes time. This song speaks about how difficult it is to find yourself in a new-found environment whose existence you could never imagine, a world with shattered dreams and promises.

What you speak unknowingly are the true words. What you do suddenly without a second thought are the things buried deep inside. Such was the slap.

New questions arise. Asking for answers is criticised, as people hate questions. Along with the storm brewing inside her, the song finally clarifies her decision too, ‘Dil ke hi saath mein jana hain’ ( She needs to go with her heart)

Some of us have this inherent belief of not respecting the work of housewives, why? Because their contribution is not included in the country's GDP ,right? 'Ek Tukda dhoop' is an ode to all the people who carry out all their responsibilities selflessly and yet their efforts are not recognised.

Tinged with melancholy and gravely sung by Raghav Chaitanya and written by Shakeel Azmi, this is a song with a slow tempo providing you ample amount of time to listen and realise that every word is smeared with the realisation of the self.

//Drops and Waves

As we open the window near our bed with a copy and a pen to weave some words along with the hush of raindrops, the rain borne breeze, somewhere a girl prays not to make the rain heavy because her books were washed away last time. As we comfort ourselves in the soft blanket on a thundering night and never want it to stop, somewhere a man tries to hide his tears and sobs from his wife beside, as he knows he will lose the sight of his green fields the next morning which have already into a mirror reflecting the sky. But, he accepts; he is not enraged though helpless for he knows that it is the same rain which brings greenery to his land on some days. Rain brings an end to the painful scream of the 'Pied crested cuckoo' who drinks only rain water drop by drop as it pours down. It brings tears to the parents looking at the bright eyes of their autistic child as he jumps to see the rain to the verandah and laughs.
The man who keeps staring at the slow moving fan, who sleeps most of the day coiling around the faded bedsheet and cries, also comes out to the balcony with his dust covered guitar to jam with the rain, to tame his indomitable mind.
