One more time 🌿

We’re adding a little extra performance of The Lamenters - Dancing Into Tears at Karens Minde on Saturday 17 October, and we would love to have you there.

Five performers, traditional crying songs, and the moment when something becomes too much, too beautiful or too painful to hold in. Wander through the site, follow a performer or simply immerse yourself, with a small speaker that carries a soundscape. Under the soft autumn sun (or soft autumn rain, let’s see!) 🍂

Crash Choreo, 2025
30 min performance piece translating the movements of Euro N-CAP crash test dummies six performers, one for each member of my family, reenact, or test the reality of the test: a carcrash we were all in 25 years ago. Moving on top of a 7mx3m vinyl print depicting a reworked version of the hand-drawn police sketch of the crash-site. Between the car-as-accesory / freedom machine imagery and the dry technicalities of crashing, the performers work through the extending moment, let the body try out, try to digest the jolts, waves, impacts.

Thank you so, so much to the performers:

@placenta___
@bladh1
@astaherta
And thank you to @jennifee.see.alternate & @a_m_a_t_t_e_r for having me in your program that day in June last year!

So long The Lamenters!!! See you in a while. We’ll be back at deep forest art land in October. Until then I’ll bath in the aftermath of this incredible process. It’s been so special to get together, to meditate over what we personally feel like crying for and what the world may want to cry for today - to then sing laments from those places. Every day. Again and again. This has been joyful, painful, demanding, giving, important, felt slightly activistic and surely has changed me profoundly.

I already miss everything about our process and our moments in the studio so much. And can’t wait to get together again and let The Lamenters come alive in a new place - a new setting.

A big shout out to the most amazing and dedicated team:

@jomas_tanypka @motherbikini @beck heiberg @max.wallmeier

My beloved crying mates. You have giving so much - opening your heart and pouring your tears into this project. I’m in awe of all of you. And I love being your Maman 💗

A heartfelt to @tuomasrounakari for so generously and gently sharing your lament practice with us - this has been the foundation for this work to come life.

Thank you @mirko.guido for your sharp eyes, hands on work with material and endless talks - for so kindly and gently helping to bring concept and material into congruency.

Thanks you @inballieblich for the most amazing costume work! From kombucha hats to deer fur to the countless details making every piece so special.

Thank you @tildalarke and @mirandariviere for joining in, giving your time, heart and energy into this project. What a pleasure to have you two lovely green sausages with us!

Thank you @lenavorech for following the process from afar and for preparing everything so caring.

And last but not least: thank you the sweetest team of @sydhavnteater for inviting and co-producing The Lamenters - Dancing Into Tears. We felt supported, cared for and most welcome.

And even if it would be very reasonable to take a moment off after such an intense time - I’m already landed in Zagreb where I’ll restage The Laughing Crowd with a local cast at the museum of contemporary art.

Very swift shift from crying to laughter. Makes so much sense!

MEET THE TEAM BEHIND THE LAMENTERS - DANCING INTO TEARS // Sigrid Stigsdatter Mathiassen

🐴The Lamenters - Dancing into tears, 4,5,6th September 2026🐴
Info and tickets: link in bio

Sigrid is one of our five performers! She is a choreographer, performer, and vocalist based in Copenhagen and working internationally. She works through body and voice, text and sound with dance as the center piece. Engaging with dance as a poetic, sensual and addictive matter through which she can interrogate dynamics of power, social behaviours and the everyday drama. She creates work that is both punk, magic and deeply feminist. Sigrid holds a BA in Choreography from SNDO (Amsterdam University of the Arts) and an MFA in Choreography from Den Danske Scenekunst Skole, Copenhagen. She is a member of Jacuzzi (Amsterdam) and Dance Cooperative (Copenhagen), two artist-run initiatives working for and with the dance community.

We have asked our team some questions on crying/lamenting😭and here are Sigrid’s answers:

do you have a favourite movie/song/book that always makes you cry ?

I can always cry to I’m Kissing You by Des’ree from the soundtrack to Romeo and Juliet. That movie I have to say, can also always get my teenage heart to burst into tears. When Claire Danes cries, I cry.

Do you like to use your voice and why ?

My voice is one of my main tools, it is a direct connection to my emotions. I see the voice as the limp that connects the inside and the outside. And there is just nothing that makes me as happy or sad, as when I sing.

Being part of CRUSH a few months was such a special experience. 🖤
CRUSH is a psychodrama centred around a theatre crew who find themselves in abandoned casinos — moving through shifting spaces between reality, performance and spectacle and what is left behind.
I had the best experience co-creating this work alongside such an incredible group of artists. I’m so grateful to have been part of this process and to everyone who brought their own ideas, energy and magic into the work.
CRUSH was shown at Den Frie, and I’m still carrying so much from that experience with me. ✨
