The Delicacy of Invasive Machines

📅 Tuesday, 20. October 2026, 17:30 (admission from 17:00)
📍@motionexperiencelab, room 404, KISD

In this KISDtalk, Nelly-Eve Rajotte explores how technologies such as surgical robotics, LiDAR scanning, biometric sensors and artificial intelligence can be repurposed to create imagery from the perspective of the living world. By transforming devices originally designed for measurement and control, she explores new forms of presence, otherness and sensory experience.

Presenting her recent works The Trees Communicate with Each Other at 220 Hertz and Matter (2024), In the Depths of Flesh, the Delicacy of Invasive Machines (2025), she examines how non-human perspectives and machine-generated visions of landscapes can create immersive and empathetic experiences.

@nellyeverajotte
is an artist and professor at UQAM's School of Design in Montreal, where she researches moving image and sound design. Her immersive installations and performances explore non-human ways of seeing, using technologies including LiDAR, biosensors, AI and robotics.

Her work has been presented at the Musée d'art contemporain de Montréal, Contemporary Calgary, MUTEK, transmediale Berlin, ISEA and KIKK Festival, among others, and is held in several public collections.

MXL on Air: KISDtalk by Martin Simpson and Breg Horemans
TAAT,BE (@taat_projects)
23.06.2026 – 17:00
Online and @motionexperiencelab / KISD / Ubierring 40 / R404

Since 2014, TAAT’s work seeks to design spaces for encounter: between urban and natural contexts, between participants and art professionals, and between human and more-than-human life. In the last years, their design processes evolved from human-centred and result-driven to multispecies sensitive and process-based. In this presentation we follow their design gestures: from the shallow reed covered shores of an uninhabited fluvial island (in Lithuania), to the meanders of the Maas and Aa river (in The Netherlands and Belgium). Through Horemans’ PhD-research an eco-dramaturgical approach to spatial design unfolds, while Simpson’s river organs and wind flutes make attempts to tune in the body of the designer to the frequencies of wind and water. The presentation will be partly set in the Live Agora, a hybrid working tool that supports the emergence of new multispecies collaborations. TAAT’s practice, as part of a movement of practices, disorients the body of the maker into alternative ways to make worlds: by foregrounding and valorising the simple yet powerful gesture of tuning in with each other.

I N T R U S I V E TIMER

A timer that intrudes, distorts and interrupts your online routine.

Intrusive Timer makes the time we lose on social media visible.
The user sets a usage limit: as long as the limit isn’t reached, the screen remains neutral.
Once the time is exceeded, the intrusive timer appears, minutes overlay the display, images begin to distort, and seconds tick away in the corner, reminding us that time keeps slipping by.

Last week we sat down with Henning Brode (@henningbrode) at the @motionexperiencelab to speak about the invisible layers of our work — the emotional agency of light and sound, and how space can become something we feel, not only see.

What happens when technology becomes sensorial?
When perception becomes part of the experience itself?

This interview will become part of Henning’s ongoing research and we’re grateful to have been part of “MXL On Air: Learning by listening” @kisdesign

Special thanks to @lettersaremyfriends, photos by @jakob_trll and visuals on the LED by @rts.zip

We are programmed to behave, work and play following cultural applications such as local traditions and norms of etiquette, but also food, clothes and laws are written, sewn and cooked, requiring formal and informal decoding to be read, worn and eaten. Along their creative journey the cook, the fashion designer and the lawmaker (as any other creative) needs to look at their context critically in order to discover unexplored territories and propose media that meet their local needs. From the pedagogy of play, each meal, garment and law can be thought of as a game and thereafter citizens, fashion models and diners, become players. As we lose the need to control the results, the design process becomes a dialogue, intrinsically participative, where everybody is welcomed to join and play along.
