I cut some of my dahlias before the frost to make a few bouquets. These peach and orange ones are fun to use for Fall and Halloween.

Little moments going over cookie recipes.
I love the early morning light in the kitchen.

I wish you could come visit over cinnamon tea and bake cookies with me. ☺️🌲✨❤️

Today it’s old fashioned iced oatmeal cookies, snowball cookies, cranberry walnut biscotti and (not a cookie) but a savory thin seed cracker (Näkkileipä) from our Finland years.
There’s Spritz butter cookies and molasses clove cookies in the freezer.

What’s on your cookie list this year?

It takes a bit for sweater weather to officially commence on the mountain, we play along with “Faux Fall” here for quite awhile but now the mornings are starting with a chill as small fires crackle in the fireplace to warm us. 🔥
The leaf colors are ramping up this week on our hill although still they are slow, it’s not a season to be rushed thankfully.

Fall is a beautiful long slow season here in the South. It’s truly savored and celebrated. 🍁🍂🧡

Enjoying a quiet Friday morning here.
It’s been a week of juggling garden crops 🍅🥒🌿🫙coming in all at once in the hottest week of the Summer like they do.
In between pickling and jar washing there was appointments and pop up comings and goings.
Life, ya know.

This morning I’m shuffling about quietly late in my pajamas starting the weekend early.
How was your week?

Harvest basket gathering this morning before the heat took hold.

Cucumbers are just starting to come in as the heat has us taking off broccoli and cauliflower before it goes to flower.

Pesto!

🌿🌻🧀👩🏼‍🍳🤌
Nut-free pesto.
Quick and easy.

Recipe as written makes 9-11oz of pesto depending on how tight you pack your measuring cup.
🌿🌿🌿🌿🌿
Serve it fresh or it can frozen to enjoy later.

🌿4 cups packed basil leaves (rinsed well and dried, I use a salad spinner)
🌿 2/3 cup sunflower hearts (raw unsalted hulled sunflower seeds)
🌿 4oz Parmesan
🌿 2 Tablespoons garlic
🌿 1 cup good olive oil + extra
🌿 3 good pinches of coarse sea salt
🌿 fresh cracked pepper

I process entire recipe in a food processor fitted with in bowl knife blade.
Process cheese first to a fine texture, then add rest of ingredients.
Work into a smooth pesto consistency.
Can be served fresh or divided into containers to be frozen.
Top container with extra olive oil to retain color.
.

.
I’m happy to help if you have questions.

*Dawn of @1800askdawn had suggested an alternative to pine nuts to make pesto a few years ago and I never looked back! 👏🏼💚🌿👩🏼‍🍳
For domestic 🇺🇸 sunflower hearts I order from @nutsdotcom they have a selection of sunflower seeds, check origin in the description.
