Of course, I couldn’t let the day go by without a little Nathan and Elizabeth birthday treat. Really, she has no one to blame but herself for this one. 😏

A while back, we were talking about those deliciously ordinary moments between Nathan and Elizabeth when she suggested a particularly intriguing possibility: a hot summer day, Elizabeth desperately trying to cool off...and Nathan discovering that an ice cube might be useful for more than keeping the lemonade cold. 🧊🔥

The idea stayed tucked away in my writer brain. Then came a summer filled with heat waves, the relentless Puerto Rico heat, and plenty of moments when I would have happily climbed inside my freezer. 😂 Suddenly, I found myself thinking about Elizabeth enduring a sweltering September in Hope Valley...and what Nathan might do to help.

Naturally, things got a little...heated.

A little fun Friday FAN EDIT because, in my mind, Nathan Grant was always going to get married in his serge.

I know I can’t be the only one who sees Nathan getting married like THIS…❤️ (or maybe I’m on serge 🏝️ alone 😂)

Don’t get me wrong, navy suit Nathan is very handsome 🫠 But when I picture Nathan and Elizabeth’s wedding, my mind goes back to the heart of their story: the Mountie and the teacher. Simple. Them. Full of love, family, and friends. (Honestly I’ll take them eloping…just get it done! 😂)

Nathan is a man and a father first, but his sense of duty, honor, and service is such a deeply rooted part of who he is. He wears that serge with pride, even if we all know he’d probably rather be in literally anything more comfortable 😉

And somehow, seeing him standing beside Elizabeth in it just feels…right. Like their story coming full circle. ❤️

So… apparently Hallmark decided to wander directly into my fanfiction universe. 🔥🚒

Except some of you may remember that long before The Spirit of Halloween was filmed, I had another Kevin-shaped firefighter making his way into the Lady of Letters fanfiction realm.

Nathan Grant in Falling for Fire and Blaze. 🔥

In these When Calls the Heart Modern AU fanfics, Nathan trades the Mountie red serge for firefighter turnout gear… and Elizabeth Thornton still manages to turn his world completely upside down. ❤️‍🔥

And somewhere in the alternate universe of Falling for Fire and Blaze, he’s probably looking at me right now like: See? I told you the turnout gear worked. 😎

So, with Mr. McGarry officially entering his firefighter era, it seems like a particularly appropriate moment to revisit the story where Nathan Grant already has one.
