We are grateful to live, work, play, create, and grow in Tk’emlúps te Secwépemc, in the unceded territory of Secwépemc’ulucw. We hope everyone’s weekend is filled with love, gratitude, and connection. Frosts are a possibility this weekend. We are grateful for them too! Frosts mark the changing seasons, and some food plants, like apples, need a certain number of frost days to form buds to fruit the following year. And some crops like parsnips become sweeter. What are you grateful for this year? What are you looking forward to next year? The Saturday market runs from 8:30 AM to 12:30 PM in the 200 block of St. Paul Street. ❤️ Did you know that one of Kamloops' most impactful community organizations is doing so much more than putting food on the table? We recently had the opportunity to volunteer and learn more about the Mount Paul Community Food Centre, and think more people in Kamloops need to know about the incredible work happening right here in our backyard. Operated by Interior Community Services, this centre is about so much more than food. It's about dignity, connection, education, independence, and making sure everyone has a place where they belong. Here are a few things you might not know: 🥗 They offer FREE community meals twice a week, where everyone is welcome to sit down, enjoy a nutritious meal, and connect with others. 🥕 They operate an affordable produce market, making fresh, healthy food more accessible. 🌱 They have an incredible 8,000-square-foot learning garden AND help manage eight community gardens throughout Kamloops. 👩‍🍳 They teach cooking and nutrition skills to youth, adults, seniors, and people with diverse abilities. ❤️ They help seniors maintain their independence through grocery shopping assistance, Meals on Wheels, food hamper deliveries, friendly check-in calls, and social programs. 🌻 They even operate a FREE seed library to encourage people to grow their own food! And here's something that really puts their impact into perspective... The centre serves approximately 750–1,000 people every WEEK. That's hundreds of our neighbours finding nourishment, support, connection, and community. What we love most is that this isn't simply about addressing hunger. It's about creating a place where people feel welcomed, valued, and supported. We are so fortunate to have organizations like this in Kamloops, and the people and volunteers behind them deserve to be celebrated. 📍 140 Laburnum Street, Kamloops ❤️ If you didn't know about the Mount Paul Community Food Centre before today, please share this reel. The more people who know about these incredible resources, the stronger our community becomes. #Kamloops #MountPaulCommunityFoodCentre #KamloopsCommunity #CommunityMatters #SupportLocal GivingBack KamloopsBC Str

That's a wrap on the Painted Pathways mural project! Over the last three months, I've been working with the Mount Paul Community Food Center to develop and design murals that reflect their center's accessible programming and the diverse community that comes through their doors every week. A big part of this project was having community involvement in its creation. We hosted 4 painting workshops where community members regardless of art experience or background were welcome to come and hang out, learn about the food center, and put some paint on the mural boards 😊 the result was four finished murals that have unique, vibrant contributions, and a mural that the community can look at and go "that person looks like me!", or (as it happened in our workshops) "that person looks like you!" What matters most is that these art pieces are enjoyed by everyone, create a welcoming space, and brighten the walls of a building that is open to everyone 🌿
